UK firms develop #drone-freezing ray

UK firms develop #drone-freezing ray | Digital #MediaArt(s) Numérique(s) | Scoop.it
Three British companies have created a device to deter drones from entering sensitive areas by freezing them mid-flight

The Anti-UAV Defense System (Auds) works by covertly jamming a drone's signal, making it unresponsive.

After this disruption, the operator is likely to retrieve the drone believing that it has malfunctioned.

The system joins a host of recently announced technologies which can blast larger drones out of the sky.

A drone flying in sensitive airspace can be detected by the Auds radar and then sighted via a camera equipped with thermal imaging capabilities so that it can be targeted visually.

Then, a high-powered radio signal can be focused on the drone - essentially overriding the connection to whoever is operating it.

The whole process takes as little as 25 seconds, according to the manufacturers.

Drone-2000 (Floating Prophecies) - Nicolas Maigret /// #drone #mediaart

Drone-2000 Research (Floating Prophecies - 2015)

The figure of the drone serves as the starting point for this film, enabling it to explore the intersections that exist between fictional depictions arising from science-fiction literature and the actual advent of flying machines with camera vision in contemporary world, folklore and mythology.

By juxtaposing quotes from works from the previous century (1880 - 2000) with a selection of popular, recent videos that have been posted on video sharing websites, this film explores the grey zone between self-fulfilling prophecy and composite narratives.

Build a Wi-Fi #Drone Disabler with #Raspberry Pi | Digital #MediaArt(s) Numérique(s) | Scoop.it

Quadcopters capable of transmitting high-quality video are making it possible to affordably record unique perspectives. But these “unmanned aircraft systems,” as the FAA calls them, have posed new challenges in security, safety, and privacy, and many experts caution pilots to consider the implications of increased drone usage. In addition to the concern of constant surveillance, there’s the possibility that businesses (or hackers) can collect location information from mobile devices by using roving drones.

As a result, a cottage industry is forming for anti-drone technology. These devices come in a range of sizes, from plane-mounted to handheld tools. I will show you how to build our own rig to execute a particular network-based attack against one type of quadcopter control: Wi-Fi. ...

A Kind #Drone - ad campaign was produced by Dentsu

Over the weekend Japanese online retailer BUYMA launched a unique ad campaign that aired on Japanese television. A male and female dancer, naked except for socks, dance across a stage doing twirls, kicks and even lifts. Nudity laws would have prevented the segment from ever airing on TV if it weren’t for a series of carefully programmed “Kind Drones” that float around the dancers with white flags that censor what would be deemed as obscene.

James Bridle Artist Database Compiles All Known Data on the Drone Wars

James Bridle Artist Database Compiles All Known Data on the Drone Wars | Digital #MediaArt(s) Numérique(s) | Scoop.it
But all it shows is that more data doesn't mean more power.

London-based artist James Bridle has previously given viewers a peek into the realities of mass surveillance and drone warfare. Bridle’s latest work takes those occasional glimpses we get of the drone war and collates them all in one place: a single database of everything to do with drones.

“A Quiet Disposition” is named after the Disposition Matrix—the name given to the shadowy “kill list” of suspects targeted by US military drones.
