Interview with Patrick Tresset - By Etienne Verbist // #mediaart

Interview with Patrick Tresset - By Etienne Verbist // #mediaart | Digital #MediaArt(s) Numérique(s) | Scoop.it

Patrick Tresset is a London based artist, his art practices follow two main path, on one hand Tresset presents theatrical installations in which robotic agents are actors, these installations are often evocations of humanness. Tresset crafts the computational systems driving the robots so that their behaviour can be perceived as artistic, expressive and obsessive. These systems are influenced by research into human behaviour, more specifically how humans make marks, how humans depict other humans, how humans perceive artworks and how humans relate to robots. On the other hand Tresset also uses robots and computational systems to produce series of drawings, paintings and videos.

Simon Faithfull's Limbo: Mobile App as Anti-Heroic Art - by Joan K. Smith (2011) #mediaart #appasart

Simon Faithfull's Limbo: Mobile App as Anti-Heroic Art - by Joan K. Smith (2011) #mediaart #appasart | Digital #MediaArt(s) Numérique(s) | Scoop.it

In art and myth, the journey is usually a heroic quest, dripping with metaphor. But what if a journey involves, instead of a highly-sought destination and revelation, simply bouncing between ports in the most banal way possible, like on the cross-channel ferry between Dover and Calais?

For artist Simon Faithfull, the anti-heroic banality of this crossing made it a perfect launching ground for his Limbo project (commissioned by the Film and Video Umbrella), which transmits and geo-locates, in real time, digital drawings made by Faithfull via a custom-made iPhone app. For a full six days (May 14th through 19th), Faithfull stayed on the ferry for an unorthodox artist residency orchestrated by artconnexion, a French art organization, going back and forth in this "window between states" while he created -- and instantly broadcast -- drawings on his iPhone. ...

Clint Fulkerson's tesselation drawings - interview by China Blue / The Engine Institute

Clint Fulkerson's tesselation drawings - interview by China Blue / The Engine Institute | Digital #MediaArt(s) Numérique(s) | Scoop.it

Clint Fulkerson is an artist from Maine who began his career with a degree in metal smithing. As a metalsmith he said he learned to become slow and precise which was the opposite to the painting he was doing at the time with broad gestural strokes. This became his new method of working and he now forces himself to “slow down and consider each moment in the present” which allows him to think about the influences of his work that range from science and math to information technology. With information technology, math, science and precision on his mind Fulkerson draws works that are remissent of tesselation (tiling) patterns that fit perfectly together. The drawings evolve based on rules that he has developed which define the placement of each mark. While his personal algorithms are the overriding design each work begins at a random place and then evolve as he works.
