#Call - Appel à résidences d’artistes VIDEOFORMES 2016>2017 - Art vidéo & arts numériques | Digital #MediaArt(s) Numérique(s) | Scoop.it

I – Principe des résidences

A Kind #Drone - ad campaign was produced by Dentsu

Over the weekend Japanese online retailer BUYMA launched a unique ad campaign that aired on Japanese television. A male and female dancer, naked except for socks, dance across a stage doing twirls, kicks and even lifts. Nudity laws would have prevented the segment from ever airing on TV if it weren’t for a series of carefully programmed “Kind Drones” that float around the dancers with white flags that censor what would be deemed as obscene.

Canon dropped a bombshell this morning by announcing the new Canon ME20F-SH, a multi-purpose camera that has a maximum ISO of over 4,000,000. That’s right: this camera can basically see in the dark.

Canon says the sensor in the camera allows it to shoot Full HD video while subjects are illuminated with less than 0.0005 lux. To put that in perspective, full moon on a clear night is about 0.27 to 1.0 lux, and 0.0001 lux is a moonless, overcast night. The camera can capture high-quality images of things the human eye cannot see...

Carnage #2 - generative video by François Zajéga / soundtrack Gauthier Keyaerts

Through this series of generative paintings, we explore the raw material that are the contemporary pornographic videos. Each slaughter develops an aspect in touch with these productions: the pleasure, the sensualism, the disappearance of the individual, the violence, the suffering, etc.

The rare understandable tracks suggest rather that they show the sexual intercourse, bringing a painterly sensuality in generated images.

Florian Meisenberg’s 6 videos consist of screen-captures depicting the real time manipulation of the digital source-code of different JPGs chosen from the internet. In each screen-capture video, the screen is divided into the source code, opened in TextEdit window, and a preview of the output JPG image, which changes according to the alteration of the source-code. This is accompanied by the sound of typing and the surrounding ambient sound. The alterations in the code include excerpts and quotes from philosophical and historical texts–such as Søren Kierkegaard’s Sickness unto Death, J.P. Sartre's War Diaries: Notebooks from a Phoney War 1939-40, or The Communist Manifesto by Engels and Marx. The insertion of these texts into the code causes a change in the visual surface of the images, questioning the notion of an original author or authentic image.

Open Call 2016 - Bandits-Mages #Festival - three topics: Witchcraft, Trans_plant and Specement | Digital #MediaArt(s) Numérique(s) | Scoop.it

Since 1991, Bandits-Mages has organized a festival (called Rencontres since 2013 ). This festival offers screening and broadcasting throughout the year, produces works using contemporary media, design and conducts wokshops. This year, Bandits-Mages is changing over to a new transmission space and above all the Rencontres presents itself as a collective creative time-space. It will now be a prototype of a DIY school where production and broadcasting tools are at the service of research for students, artists and curators who come together via shared hacker ethics.

Programs will emerge from this “being together” as an invitation to others to join us.

It is within this framework that we are creating an open call for students and emerging artists interested by hybridization and becoming queer. In the manner of Bandits-Mages origins we’ll screen research films, film studies and experimental movies in multiple spaces: theater, cinema and transmedia stage.

This call is focus on three topics: Witchcraft, Trans_plant and Specement (the embodiment of hybrid species).

No duration limit for films.
Each applicant can choose one or several topics.
Subscription is free.
Deadline is June the 30th.
Chosen programs done in regard on proposals will be announced at the end of July.

#Additivism is a collaboration between artist and activist Morehshin Allahyari and writer/artist/academic Daniel Rourke. In March 2015 they released The 3D Additivist Manifesto: a call to push additive manufacturing technologies to their absolute limits and beyond, into the realm of the speculative, the provocative and the weird. They then issued a call for submissions for a radical ‘Cookbook‘ of blueprints, designs, 3D print templates, and essays on the topics raised by their Manifesto including text and projects on environmental ethics, objects in movements for social and political change, the renewed contemporary significance of the artist manifesto by the likes of the Accelerationist and Xenofeminist movements, and the potential of radical intervention in contemporary technocapitalism.

What would Voyager 3 contain if it would be re-launched today, after 38 years? In 1977, an information package was launched into space, a symbolical selection for the human civilization, launched with the intention to be intercepted or discovered by an alien civilization. A sort of “hello” from the humans, a way of saying “we are here”.

Today, maybe, such a package would contain microchips, texts with smiley faces at a correct decoding. We would probably brag about the invention of a virtual communication system, about our intelligent control systems? Our self-control or the controlling of others. We might also include some e-books about the human nature, on micro-sd cards, because we also advanced our knowledge in the field of psychoanalysis. Why wouldn’t we send a picture of Osama or of other terrorists that we cannot find, maybe they would help us with that.
Maybe we could simply send a cry for help, in the hope that in the thousand years that would take them to discover it, there would still be a chance for a few of us to be saved. Or Voyager 3 could be a new Noah’s ark, a capsule of DNA for a possible reconstruction.

In the end, the important thing to know is that we are not alone. And also, it is important to understand how did we end up here. But does it worth the effort? Or wouldn’t it be wiser to enjoy our mere existence and to co-exist peacefully without exploiting each other for the sake of profit, without exercising our power and dominance over each other.

Is this exploitation of others human nature? Is it the engine of progress? Is this evolution? Or is it evolution the creation of virtual realities where we can feed our brains with “01”? Till then, we have other serious problems. Soon the Earth will become overcrowded and under the human influence, the fight for territory drives the species to the verge of extinction. For now, we are preparing a colony to Mars…

But meanwhile art must go on, contemplating and acting, re-acting with our creative means, being aware of the power of now. Hope exists as long as we believe in hope, as long as we believe in our creative power in order to save ourselves and hope for a broader echo.

The project began out of spite. I had just purchased a digital camera (Nikon CoolPix 900), and it was rather expensive. My girlfriend at the time asked me why I bought it and what I was going to do with it. I explained. She seemed unconvinced and asked if I was "going to use it every day" with sarcastic inflection. I told her yes, and resolved to do so. Inception!

* Supposedly this story is untrue. At some point Michelle explained to me that I had wanted to do this with a Polaroid prior to the digital camera but couldn’t justify the ongoing expense of the film at the time. ...
