Primary Document #2 art nouveau to art deco

Primary Document #2 art nouveau to art deco | Arrt Deco design and Architecture | Scoop.it
The article I chose this time starts by telling us that art deco was not the first type of art. It dates back to the 1800s of art Nevoueau and then gracefully transitions into art deco. There are also examples of places in the world were art deco originated and gives example and grave detail of how the different countries supported the idea. Eventually it makes its way to the United States.

Summary Paragraphs

two paragraph summary
Pretty Denise's insight:

The topic I had was art deco. It kind of makes you think it’s short for art decorations, right? Well it’s kind of that way. Art deco was created around 1925 by an artist name Le Corbusier, from France, who thought it was a great idea to enhance the future designs.  He was tired of seeing the same old boring and plain designs so he decided to add geometry. Geometry? Yes! He added several pops of color and geometric patterns that bounced and made the eye move. He first introduced it at an art show held in France. Sooner or later the art made its way to the United States were it became really popular. Every one from owner of stores to women who shopped daily followed this trend. It wasn’t long before the world was changed.

Art Deco was mostly shown in architecture. Buildings worldwide were being adjusted, tweaked, and remodeled from tip to end. Building were no longer just round but added trapezoids, triangles, rectangles, and other shapes to the mix. The world didn’t just change through architecture, though. There was also fashion. Famous wedding ring designers began to make wedding rings from art deco. Necklaces were made, purses designed in the art deco fashion. There were also fashion shows that showcased clothing that was no longer plaid or polka dotted but had thousands of shapes sewn into one.  Shoes began to have a new style and even hairstyles were beginning to be considered as art deco. Famous magazines such as Vogue showcased women as being elongated and in art deco fashion. The world’s new design was fun and different that lasted at least up to the 1960’s.

Primary Document #3 French Art Deco | Thematic Essay | Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History | The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Primary Document #3 French Art Deco | Thematic Essay | Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History | The Metropolitan Museum of Art | Arrt Deco design and Architecture | Scoop.it

Basically this document starts off informing everyone about how there was once a style, Art Nevoueau, that could have came about but failed. That is when Art Deco came about around 1925.When this failure came about there were artists in France that believed they could bring it back to life. I liked this particular document because, although long, it gave very great detail of how art deco was not the first art to come about. It lets us know that there were other forms of fashion that failed, resulting in art deco being very successful.

Primary Document #1 Architecture

Primary Document #1 Architecture | Arrt Deco design and Architecture | Scoop.it

This particular document was chosen because it starts back to the time and place of art deco's origins. Who ever wrote the document tells about the new beginning of the world. They also tell  how buildings have began to transform into something totally different. There are examples given of how objects that were used everyday were also transformed. I ilke that  this document isn't just filled with hard words you can't understand but it's broken down. I also like how there are pictures after almost every paragraph. Overall I would rate the document as a 9 out of 10.

This article and picture relates to my topic because it shows an image of art deco "geometrically". It inspired designers to take the 1920's design and bring it to the 2012/2013 fashion.
