6 Things to Know Before You Buy Your Powerball Ticket

6 Things to Know Before You Buy Your Powerball Ticket | Nutrition For Healthy Living | Scoop.it
The largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history bulged to $800 million Friday.
Yamil Sarabia MS LAc's insight:

So, according to Olivia S. Mitchel, professor at Wharton School at Uni Pennsylvania: "We know the average American is quite financially illiterate,"

Why is that?

Well, whatever, whatever, and that's another story on it's own. Get up slap yourself in the face or go wash your face with cold water, look in the mirror and know that YOU ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR EDUCATION IN ANYTHING! And that includes even if you're in college or whatever learning institution.

Self education is the way and if you were to go to the library and read any great men and women who have made grand contributions to society, they will admit that they went out and read and read and asked and asked so they could KNOW enough TO CREATE THEIR PATH TO SHOW OTHERS THE PATH.

Please pick up a book and read. It's the only way to get out of the drudge of life.

But seriously, to be on top of your Financial Life is like being on top of your diet for health or your doctor appointments.

How Mindfulness Meditation Builds Compassion - The Atlantic

How Mindfulness Meditation Builds Compassion - The Atlantic | Nutrition For Healthy Living | Scoop.it
Mindfulness meditation is best known for its positive effects on practitioners’ brains and bodies. My research suggests it may also encourage compassion toward others.
Yamil Sarabia MS LAc's insight:

So this recent study shows that compassion and kindness is at an all time low. Suprise? No.

But, I'm also not surprised that Meditation actually changes that behavior.  See, from my years of meditation, I have found that going within myself with a quiet mind has opened my eyes to the vast inner Universe and that ONENESS feeling that begs me to feel empathy for all those really ignorant folks in my work life dealings, as I walk the streets of NYC and even in my own family.

Yes, at times I have to focus on my breath and think, "ok he/she's my brother/sister and how horrible life can be for all of us". Then I go into my moment of Zen and feel grateful to the Universal Qi that I didn't allow myself to fall into their moron state of consciousness. And best of all, all this helps them come out of it and usually smile or at least mellow out.

If you're one of my clients reading this, ask me to show you the quickest and easiest meditation technique I've been using for years to teach beginners.  Have a Happy Meditation.

12 Dangerous Food Additives: The Dirty Dozen Food Additives You Really Need to be Aware Of

12 Dangerous Food Additives: The Dirty Dozen Food Additives You Really Need to be Aware Of | Nutrition For Healthy Living | Scoop.it

Discover why you should be watching your food labels carefully for these "dirty dozen" food additives.

Via Troy Mccomas (troy48)
Yamil Sarabia MS LAc's insight:

The DIRTY DOZEN is originally used for the 12 fruits and vegetables that are the most inundated with pesticides each year. That's a more disturbing problem. Here DIRTY DOZEN is referring to the 12 most hazardous food chemicals used in processed foods and yes restaurant food too.

I've been reading food labels since a teenager and taught my children at an earlier age than that.  I told them they had to learn how to cook fresh and from scratch as I instructed since it was the only way they were going to eat healthy when on their own. So I'm telling you, unless you become an activist and fight the big business in control of our food supply, being smart about food choices will go along way to better health.

Yamil Sarabia MS LAc's curator insight, November 20, 2014 5:47 PM

Just a few weeks ago I was at the DMV, and on exiting, I was pulled in to a side room by lady who asked if I wanted a free cholesterol and BP screening. Not having the need to check these things in years and years, I decided to go in. The very nice lady was a nurse who took my blood and  BP.  Everything was perfect just as I expected. But, to my surprise, my good cholesterol (HDL) was considerably high.

Great news which I figured to be a result of my calm and good natured manner until I ran across this article on the benefits of avocados.  It stated that Avocados increase the HDL (good cholesterol). It made me happy.

That's it! I eat lots of avocados, at least one daily for the benefit of the vitamin E content and that it is a very Alkalizing food.  As Americans, we eat more acid foods than ever and eating foods that are more Alkalinizing  helps to balance things out. I'm absolutely delighted to see that my Sarabia Holistic  life style pays off.

Enjoy your avocados!

Middle-Aged White Americans Are Dying of Despair

Middle-Aged White Americans Are Dying of Despair | Nutrition For Healthy Living | Scoop.it
Uneducated white Americans are living sicker and dying younger. Here's why.
Yamil Sarabia MS LAc's insight:

Take the word "WHITE" out of this and you will see it's all Americans this is happening to. And this pattern has always been graphically evident in marginalized and oppressed US citizens, however, in some health perspectives it's viewed as "genetic". But, I suppose the point of this article is not the reason for these stats, but that "WHITE" Americans shouldn't be dying like this.

Nonetheless, it's interesting and important. As I read from another view, it is clear that socioeconomic instability has a major impact on lifestyle, one's mindset, outlook on life and subsequently on one's  health both physical and mental wellbeing.

If we want to be healthy and live long, It's obligatory for all of us to be eagle-eyed to the perils of an undesirable socioeconomic state.  Like a bumpy road or one with potholes, we swerve to get to the destination safely and timely.  Likewise, we must swerve in life and ever avoid distractions like ethnicity, color, negative people and even the instability itself. Proceed with confidence, ever being creative and believing in yourself with rooted knowing that you will arrive safely and timely. And for God's sake, don't compare yourself to others. Simply self-analyze, review and stay focused on the destination with all its beauty and glory.  Happiness comes from within and not our socioeconomic standing.

Hopefully, this will help you not to become part of a Statistic in future.

Everything you ever wanted to know about recycling

Everything you ever wanted to know about recycling | Nutrition For Healthy Living | Scoop.it
Is it worth it? Environmentally, yes. Economically, sometimes. Cue the ballistic separator.
Yamil Sarabia MS LAc's insight:

I've been recycling since the first time I got a recycle bin. It makes heart sense:  Love the planet we live on..take care of it!

It makes money sense:  money makes our world go round right?

"It takes 30 percent less energy and creates 50 percent less pollution to use recycled glass to make new glass than does making new glass from scratch."

Please recycle. Thank you.
