In two weeks’ time, the MS Nyksund, a new high-tech vessel for shipping fish feed will be put into service for BioMar. As part of the process of modernising BioMar’s shipments of fish feed, an agreement was signed in 2015 with NSK Shipping AS for the construction of a new feed carrier.

The ship was formally handed over earlier this week at the Tersan shipyard the site responsible for construction. The ship is owned and operated by NSK Shipping.

Homes and businesses on the remote peninsula of Knoydart and Loch Nevis on Scotland’s west coast can now enjoy the benefits of superfast broadband, thanks to a collaboration between leading salmon grower Scottish Sea Farms and rural broadband company HebNet CIC. 

Previously, the area was served by an internet service that was struggling to cope with the increased demands being placed on it. Similarly, the satellite system that Scottish Sea Farms was reliant on for internet access wasn’t able to support the growing business need for high speed, high capacity connectivity between its three Loch Nevis farms and the shore base.

Commissioned to assist the NFI Crab Council in formulating effective policies for bolstering blue swimming crab populations in South East Asia, the study provides a history of enhancement work, a survey of existing methods and recommendations specific to crab fisheries. 

In “Stock Enhancement: Strategic Approach for the Blue Swimmer Crab in SE Asia,” co-authors Dr’s Anson H. Hines and Yonathan Zohar describe enhancement work as one important component of a fisheries improvement regime.

Norway’s Aker Biomarine fishery first achieved MSC certification in June 2010 and achieved MSC re-certification in August 2015. 

The 2015 re-assessment showed that Aker BioMarine not only continues to operate to the highest standards of environmental sustainability, it has also improved its practices and knowledge to better manage the fishery.

"We are very pleased that today, the US House of Representatives passed the FY2018 Omnibus Appropriations Bill to fund the federal government through September 30, 2018," said Dr David Veal, Executive Director of the American Shrimp Processor Association (ASPA). 

The House Bill is expected to pass the U.S. Senate and become law after the President signs it late tomorrow. Leaders in the Senate and House added an important measure to the Bill requiring the inclusion of imported shrimp in the Seafood Import Monitoring Program (SIMP).
