Stop Teaching Students What to Think. Teach Them How to Think

Great link...and I agree there is a lot of confusion these days. As far as future job skills, there was a recent study that showed we are very poor at predicting specific occupations. It is far better to focus on core competencies versus preparing students for specific jobs given we're not all sure what they will even be in the future..my view.
Gust MEES's comment, February 1, 2013 8:31 AM
@Linda: TRUE, there will be NEW jobs which nobody today could predict! Therefore it is very important to teach the students, learners, the BEST possible skills of ICT which WE know actually and to teach them "Learning 2 Learn", so that they will be BEST prepared for Self-Learning (autodidact) to master the "Life Long Learning" who is aa MUST for 21st Century!
Ness Crouch's curator insight, February 3, 2013 3:30 AM

I a big believer in teaching skills. Give learners skills to apply elsewhere and they can do so much more.

The conclusions at the end make the article. We need to ensure that we choose the right tool for the learning context and the student or student involved.

Brett Taylor's curator insight, August 15, 2013 10:40 PM

Often the complaint or stopping point in the development for community level competency training at the industry endorsed level ... "We can't check competency online!".

There are really plenty of options though, from "selfie" videos of presentation delivery or skill demonstration, web-conference with video, Skype, FaceTime, YouTube upload, viewing and selecting the correct/incorrect video from a list ... the simple fact that creating video for distribution/sharing is almost too easy - a simple Press Here to publish online sometimes - means there really shoudn't be any need not to progress the online competency assessment model.

hakia.com - Web Search

hakia.com - Web Search | CoAprendizagens XXI | Scoop.it

Overview

hakia is a pioneering company in semantic search technology.

The mission of hakia is to innovate, develop, and deploy semantic search solutions to meet the increasing demand for elevated user expectations, business efficiency, and lowest cost.

Why Semantic Search?

Search has a quintessential role in the success and efficiency of any businesses. Conventional search systems (indexing keyword search) can no longer meet the increasing demand for quality results and time-saving practices in today's world, nor do they offer any room for progress for the future. As a result, semantic search has increasingly been the choice as the next step by many businesses during the last decade.

Semantic search technology is based on a computerized system that understands content and query similar to how the human brain processes natural languages. Instead of matching the occurrence of words or symbols (as done in indexing systems), semantic search systems match concepts and their meaningful variations.

Unlock Your Emotional Genius

Unlock Your Emotional Genius | CoAprendizagens XXI | Scoop.it
How emotionally intelligent are you, and why should you care?

Successful intelligence requires that we know how to put our intellectual best foot forward.  Sometimes this means having just plain common sense, or “street smarts.”  Successful intelligence also involves having “emotional intelligence,” also called "EI," which is being to read people’s feelings- and your own.

Each school provides different education programs. This allows there to be much difference when people apply for jobs. The skills that students gain are more broad and different from other students. This depends upon what school they attended and what teachers were there.
