POP - Prototyping on Paper.

This is brilliant and just what you need if doing any sort of app design project. Such a clever idea of taking your linewire drawings and producing them on the screen in an actual device - awesome. Works for iPad and iPhone. Going to add this to our App course.

TinyTap - Create Personalised Games, Quizzes and Lessons on your Tablet

TinyTap - Create Personalised Games, Quizzes and Lessons on your Tablet | Apptastic: Go on, take a bite! | Scoop.it

Saw this site at BETT. Allows you to play and create personalised games for the iPad and Android. You can also make lessons and games.

The games/quizzes can be played on the device or embedded into other web based platforms via iframes.

Some of the game examples are more KS1 early KS2 but its very very endearing and a huge potential.

Great features available:

Creation Packs with lots of characters and backgrounds

Online image search feature

Upload images from any device linked eg Dropbox, OneDrive etc

Text boxes and formatting for writing

Drawing tools and styles

Share your game

Embed your completed game

Add a challenge mode with leaderboard, wrong answer limit, question timers and game timers

Add a selection of background music

Record your questions

Add recordings for correct and wrong answers

Add questions linked to images eg Year WW1 started, Nelson Mandela, Ou est la plage?

Add a sound board eg record word in Spanish and have it play when you click on the picture

Shape Puzzle eg drag and drop shapes in correct position or fill in missing words eg for sentence construction

Video - although I got a 404 error?

Create one quiz or a whole section of quizzes linked together in one game.

This would be a brilliant resource in the hands of a student. Get them to work with other departments or teachers in junior school to produce a range of activities and get them published!

Welcome to Classkick: www.classkick.com

Teachers create groups with class code for students. Students type in class code on the Classkick site and add their name. They will then be given the assignment

Students see each activity as a slide. They can request help from other students or teachers by clicking a button. They can also give help to others! The support is always anonymous! They move between activities by scrolling.

Once finished they can notify the teacher.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4PnD59CKME

Teachers take screenshots of any particular task or activity that allows student to write on it.  You then add a new assignment in dashboard and give it a name. Assign it to a class group then upload the screenshot image.

Images added to ClassKick can be cropped, moved, resized and deleted. YouTube links, audio recording and text boxes can be embedded on slides. Slides can be rearranged and copied as needed.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdKlBtyAulg

Teachers can see students working at their own pace with an overview screen. You can give feedback at any time either drawing on the ipad or through pre-written text messages.  You can add marks to comments too:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wf1Ved6jlW0

Classkick is also in the Appstore! https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/classkick/id909904332

Quick Key Mobile

Have now read about this in a couple of different blogs. An interesting blended app concept where you use the app as a quick way of marking paper based multiple choice quizzes.

First sign up to the Quick Key site and set up your account. You can also create your student groups and import students using a spreadsheet template.

Next create your quiz answer grid from the Dashboard and download the PDF template which students put their answers on. Students can then complete the quiz you give them (paper, aural, digital etc)

Once the quiz is done, you then scan the answer sheet with iphone/android or ipad - https://vimeo.com/123032169#at=3

Results are stored and you can send them via the app to your students (or by email if you have uploaded email addresses from the initial template).

Lots of great support on the site. Free to use if you don't go overboard with the use of the app!

News Booth | Apptastic: Go on, take a bite! | Scoop.it

News Booth for iPhone lets you create images which look like they've been grabbed from a TV news show, complete with news graphics. Kind of a cool gimmick. Also supports videos in addition to stills. Bound to be a creative use for it somewhere. Would image it to be especially popular in countries with similar TV layouts.

Post-it® Plus

A nice "mash-up" of the analogue and digital. Save your students or team's contributions on post-its digitally using this app.

Using the app and your camera you can then capture the notes. Once the post-its have been saved your can reorder and organise them on a digital board. You can also carry out some limited editing features with the Editor Pack and add in additional notes digitally. Supports different colours of Post-its.

The final product can be exported in a number of ways: PowerPoint slide and Image file amongst the most popular.

Great way to recap on lesson (understanding) Exit Polls and develop more effective continuation of lessons by linking plenaries to starters etc

Kaizena: Feedback via Google Docs and Drive

Kaizena: Feedback via Google Docs and Drive | Apptastic: Go on, take a bite! | Scoop.it

This is an amazing Google Docs add-on which allows you to make audio and other comments and feedback on students’ work. It’s a wonderfully easy way to mark homework and assignments. Students can also reply to feedback with audio comments.

Whenever a student responds to or acts upon your feedback, you will receive a notification in your Kaizena dashboard. You will also receive an email (you can turn off the email option). Along with new notifications for you, students now receive notifications when you post new feedback for them.

Kaizena notifications are now integrated into the comments section of Google Documents and Google Presentations. When you leave feedback for students through Kaizena a link to that voice comment is added to the comments section of the document or presentation.

AppSmashLive

AppSmashing amongst other things is a cool way of improving workflow with iPads. Put all too simply it is about taking different apps and combining them to produce something different.

As Mark Anderson so eloquently puts it in his blog (http://ictevangelist.com/appsmashlive-review-write/) you create a new learning outcome that is greater than the some of its parts.

App Smashing when done well has the potential to develop higher order thinking skills and redefine some aspects of learning through the use of digital technologies (SAMR)

The YouTube link above is a live mash-up with some of the leading lights in this area: Richard Wells, Joe Dale, Jenny Ashby, Mark Anderson and Michael Ha.

Watch it in your next cover lesson :o)

Microsoft’s Office Lens app turns phone/iPad into a powerful scanner

Office Lens is effectively a portable scanner in your pocket, allowing you to capture pictures of whiteboards, documents, and receipts to save and edit them digitally.

Office Lens will covert images into Word and PowerPoint files, and even PDF documents. If you take a picture of a document then Word will preserve the layout of the paper document and use optical character recognition (OCR) to convert the image into text. You can also do the same with business cards to generate contacts on a phone.

If you’ve taken a photo of a whiteboard then there’s some truly powerful things Office Lens will do. Images can be automatically cropped and rotated, and PowerPoint will even convert hand-drawn whiteboard images into objects that can be moved, resized, colored, and edited fully.

HUGELY USEFUL APP for anyone using Office365 or OneNote

Record Your iPad or iPhone Screen for Free with QuickTime on Macbook

Record Your iPad or iPhone Screen for Free with QuickTime on Macbook | Apptastic: Go on, take a bite! | Scoop.it

With the release of OS X Yosemite came the ability to use QuickTime to record the screen of your iPad or iPhone. This is an awesome update as until now you had to purchase additional software to allow for this type of screen capture. There are only a few steps to get started.

This is a massive feature for those of us lucky to have a macbook as well as an iPad. Making "instructional" or help videos for the iPad has always been a hugely complicated affair but now, no longer.

Massive breakthrough - now to go off and record the OneNote and Google Drive App :o)

Teacher Dashboard for Microsoft Office 365

Teacher Dashboard for Microsoft Office 365 | Apptastic: Go on, take a bite! | Scoop.it

Teacher Dashboard is a tool for teachers who use Microsoft Office 365 in the classroom. This presentation uses SWAY (another new product) to show off the different features.

Looking through this, the dashboard seems very similar to Google Classrooms but with the added feature of management of One Drive folders. Of course the big sticking point for both these products is the lack of an MIS to manage the groups and the work is pretty much down to you!

Looking further afield there are some VLEs that offer links from Office365. I wonder if there might be a way to incorporate Dashboard here?
