36 Core Teacher Apps For Inquiry Learning With iPads - TeachThought

36 Core Teacher Apps For Inquiry Learning With iPads - TeachThought | Apps in Education and Game-Based Learning | Scoop.it

"The interest in inquiry-based learning seems to ebb and flow based on–well, it’s not clear why it ever ebbs.

In short, it is a student-centered, Constructivist approach to learning that requires critical thinking, and benefits from technology, collaboration, resourcefulness, and other modern learning skills that never seem to fall out of favor themselves.

Regardless, St Oliver Plunkett Primary School has put together two very useful images that can help you populate your iPad–or classroom of iPads–with apps that support both inquiry-based learning (the second image below), and a more general approach to pedagogy based on Apple’s uber-popular tablet (the top image)."

Another delve into the use of Apps in inquiry learning that further cements my train of thinking that the most effective way for TLs to support Inquiry learning with technology is by providing apps as support resources. Whilst incredible short and most just a preface for the attached pair of graphics it dos draw the connection that Inquiry learning is student-centred and aims to promote collaboration, resourcefulness, creativity and question asking as modern learning skills. The 1st graphic breaks educational apps into potential applications such as Search Engine, Scrapbooking, communication and multimodal. The 2nd graphic is potentially more useful as it breaks apps into phases of inquiry: Tune In, Collect/Curate and Synthesise. The apps are also identified on the left as teacher apps for guiding, facilitating and scaffolding use, whereas the left are students apps for problem solving, critical thinking, creating, collaborating and communicating.

Hour of Code 2017: Unlock an Exciting New World by Taking a ‘Hero’s Journey’

Hour of Code 2017: Unlock an Exciting New World by Taking a ‘Hero’s Journey’ | Apps in Education and Game-Based Learning | Scoop.it
In a few weeks, people around the world will celebrate Computer Science Education Week. Millions of kids and others will participate in an Hour of Code, a global call to action to spend an hour learning the basics of coding.

Today, it’s my privilege to announce that Microsoft has released a new Minecraft tutorial for Hour of Code, called Hero’s Journey, that will be used in classrooms, at after-school programs, community centers and homes everywhere. The tutorial uses game elements loved by so many young people, and introduces a fun character called the Agent, to present computer science concepts in a fun and creative way. Learn more in a post today by Deirdre Quarnstrom, Minecraft Education general manager, and start planning your Hour of Code.

How to Scan QR Codes on iPhone with Chrome - OSXDaily

How to Scan QR Codes on iPhone with Chrome - OSXDaily | Apps in Education and Game-Based Learning | Scoop.it
QR Codes are the weird looking pixelated squares you sometimes see printed on signs or elsewhere, and while it’s a stretch to say they are widely used (or understood) they are ubiquitous in some areas. While the iPhone does not bundle a method of scanning QR codes by default, if you’re a Google Chrome user then you will find the latest versions of the iPhone Chrome app can scan QR codes for you.

There are a few ways to access the QR code scanning ability of Chrome in iOS. Perhaps the easiest is using Spotlight, but there’s a 3D Touch trick available too.

This is good to know. I use i-nigma for scanning qr codes with students but this requires a download. Now we need this to work with Chrome on Android devices.

25 Real Ways Minecraft is Being Used in the Classroom

25 Real Ways Minecraft is Being Used in the Classroom | Apps in Education and Game-Based Learning | Scoop.it
It’s hard to believe that just six years ago Minecraft was virtually unheard of. It was little more than a hobby project for creator and designer Markus Persson. Fast forward to 2016 and Minecraft has completely changed the way we perceive videogames.

Starting as a novelty in a handful of innovative classrooms, Minecraft is now a foundation of curriculums around the world. From math to art to geography and even quantum mechanics, Minecraft and imaginative educators are turning bland subjects into incredible immersive learning experiences.
