How The iPad Can Promote The Development Of Non-Cognitive Skills

How The iPad Can Promote The Development Of Non-Cognitive Skills | Apps | Scoop.it

"Although there are many reasons to use the iPads in the classroom, the development of noncognitive skills is one the educators should consider as well with the implementation of the device. Since the early 1980s, educators and employers across many disciplines have stressed the importance of noncognitive skills although the focus of most educational research has been dedicated to the relationship between cognitive skills and student achievement.

However, recent studies have demonstrated that noncognitive skills might be as important – or even more so – as cognitive skills in determining educational outcomes. Howard Gardner has gone even further by suggesting that in an increasingly interdependent globalized world “our survival […] may depend on the cultivation of this pentad of mental dispositions.”"

36 Math Apps For Elementary School Students From edshelf - TeachThought | Apps | Scoop.it

"As more classrooms adopt mobile devices such as iPads, teachers and technology integrators are faced with the question: “What apps do I install?”

That is quite a hefty question too. There are over 90,000 iOS apps in the Education category of the App Store. Since apps that teachers can use fall into other categories too, the number of choices is well above 100,000. Does your head hurt yet?"

It is not the product/tool that determines if it ought to be added. What/how does it comlement ans supplement waht the teacher is trying to accomplish with each student. So i woud train the teacher in a few of these and leave it up to her.

stephanie vanderlaan's curator insight, October 12, 2013 3:03 PM

Looks interesting.  I have yet to try the apps but thank you for sorting them to this point.

"Math File Folder Games is a excellent site/company to find a wide variety of educational iOS Math games.  These games are ideal for Mobile Learning and even "flipping the classroom".  Some of my favorite features of these games are that they are Bluetooth enabled for multi-player play (on separate devices) as well the ability to email scores to parents/teachers as well as an interactive whiteboard to try to workout the problem."
