Edward S Gilbert Jr's curator insight, August 12, 2013 11:51 AM

This is true for any business model really, however the healthcare industry has a TON of redundancy, waste and look what happened with NECC creating one of the worst medical contaminations in US HISTORY.  The people dying, suffering from the infections generated due to the pursuit of cutting cost while generating profits.  It clearly was not being regulated by the FDA due to changes implemented in regulations of that industry.  Consumers and patients need to stay on top of information with their healthcare providers, using technology to educate themselves as well as keeping their providers to the standards we all deserve with our medical professionals.  We have one of the best healthcare systems going due to innovation.  We need the checks and balances to cut the greed/fraud without caring of how it impacts other peoples lives.  This happening at 2013 proves greed/fraud is a human condition that needs to be held accountable!
