Presentics is a promising new app for iOS which lets you create multimedia presentations. Basic version is free but it has limitations.

Louise Robinson-Lay's curator insight, January 12, 2014 4:16 PM

Following on from such groundbreaking apps as Haiku Deck, Presentics allows you to add video and to draw on the presentation, whiteboard style, as you present. The free version allows only two presentations then you need to pay $9.99 AU should you want to continue using it.

Lost Your Apple TV Remote? You Don't Need to Buy Another!

Lost Your Apple TV Remote? You Don't Need to Buy Another! | AppHappy! | Scoop.it

"Apple TV has proven to be a very useful gadget, both at home and at school. Airplay mirroring is its best feature. I am able to show whatever is on my iPad/iPhone screen and beam it up to a big-screen TV or a projector. I believe, at its relatively low price point of $100, any Apple fan should own one. In terms of the classroom, it can be a powerful tool for supporting your teaching. Teachers can benefit from being able to roam around the classroom and beam up multiple devices."

Maria Kowch's insight:

To create a narrated picture book on Story Creator start by inserting a picture as your book’s cover. To create a page just tap the “+” icon and import a picture, draw a picture, type some text, or do all three. After completing one or all three of those previous actions tap the microphone icon to record your narration. After making your recording you can quickly adjust it so that each word of text is highlighted to match the timing of your narration.

I Scooped this from "iTeach with Technology" blog. Karen Ogen is the author there, but she got it from David Kapuler's blog, "Technology Tidbits."  CreatorVerse looks like a niche which hadn't been filled. Physics and Art! Linden Labs develops games, but has stepped out with more collaborative "gaming."

Kathleen McClaskey's curator insight, December 30, 2013 1:03 PM

According to The National Professional Development Center (NPDC) many interventions for autism exist, only some have been shown to be effective through scientific research. Interventions that researchers have shown to be effective are called evidence-based practices. Currently, the Center has identified 24 evidence-based practices.

Here is a comprehensive list of iPad apps that support evidence based practice for both speech language pathology and autism spectrum disorders. The table is meant for informational purposes only to illustrate how apps support evidence based practice and to use as you determine appropriate.

5. Education teachers and therapists are using ipads to help kids with diseases learn. Every student will have different preferences and individual needs. It is the educational teacher's job to find the best "fit" for each student.

Unlocking Literacy with iPad | AppHappy! | Scoop.it

As a veteran English teacher in the Euclid City Schools, and someone who sees great value in integrating technology, I wanted to contribute to the ongoing dialog regarding tablet computing, specifically, the iPad, and its impact on student literacy and students’ self perception of their own literacy. You can find an article detailing my teacher research below as well a short video I produced for this project and to share at the ISTE 2011 conference where I am presenting this research.

Voice Dream: Good Text-to-Speech App for PDF's

Voice Dream: Good Text-to-Speech App for PDF's | AppHappy! | Scoop.it

"Voice Dream is a low cost ($4.99) app that provides text-to-speech, with a high quality voice, for files that are opened in it on an iDevice. The app has been optimized for both the iPad and the smaller iPhone or iPod Touch.

Voice Dream reads PDF files well, but its developers say that it will also handle ePub, eBook, MS Word, plain text, Apple Pages, MS PowerPoint, RTF and HTML. I’ve tried it with PDF, .txt, PowerPoint, and HTML, and it handled them all well. It is important to note, however, that all formatting on the original file is lost when the file is brought into Voice Dream.

This app offers additional features that can be helpful. First, each word is highlighted in one color as it is read aloud, while the line is highlighted in another color. The user is able to select white text on a dark background, and text size can be adjusted. Finally, Voice Dream works well with DropBox for importing desired reading material."

Thank you Paul for another review of an app that can level the playing field!
