Dose-response Analysis

Dose-response Analysis | APES Human Hazards5 | Scoop.it

"The dose-response relationship describes the change in effect on an organism caused by differing levels of exposure to a stressor after a certain exposure time."

"A threshold model used in toxicology posits that anything above a certain dose of a toxin is dangerous, and anything below it safe. This model is usually applied to non-carcinogenic health hazards."

An acute effect is an adverse effect on an organism where critical symptoms develop rapidly after exposure, whereas a chronic effect is an adverse effect on an organism where symptoms develop slowly after exposure.

ED50 and LD50

This video serves to better understand what LD50 and ED50 are.

"Therapeutic window = LD50/ED50 LD50 = the dose which kills 50% of the animal (or humans). ED50 is the dose that is effective for 50% of the animals (or humans)."

A risk assessment is a process for identifying potential hazards, or risks, as well as actions to reduce or remove those risks.

What is a risk first of all?

A risk is the probability that a negative effect will result after the exposure to a hazard.

So why is it important?

Risk assessment is used during risk management in order to make decisions on whether risks should be elimininated or reduced, in the end making things safer for all.

What Is Infection? What Causes Infections?

What Is Infection? What Causes Infections? | APES Human Hazards5 | Scoop.it
A human with an infection has another organism inside them which gets its sustenance (nourishment) from that person, it colonizes that person and reproduces inside them.

This website is incredibly useful in a detailed explanation of infection, what causes it, and different types.

A vector, which is any organism that carries and transmits a pathogen into another organism, can be a cause of infection.
