Summary:

This article provides statistics showing that the US Congress is overwhelmingly Christian.

Analysis:

Although this article has no stated stance on whether or not a mostly Christian congress is a good thing, it does have the underlying theme that Congress should be more ‘religiously diverse’. Is this argument logical? Should the government be more religiously diverse? Well the answer is complicated. At the founding of the United States and woven into the very fabric of its government is Christianity, making the United States a country based of the principles of Christianity. However, one of the main goals of the United States was to provide religious freedom to all of her citizens. To ensure the US remains a country steadfast to its founding principles, it would make sense to have a predominately Christian congress, but to ensure there is equality among all religions they must all be accurately represented in the government. One thing is for certain, American is very rapidly changing its structure and getting rid of the principles it was founded on. Will America remain standing with it’s now warped foundations? Only time will tell.

There Are More Women And Minorities In The New Congress Than Ever

There Are More Women And Minorities In The New Congress Than Ever | AP US Government and Politics | Scoop.it

Summary:

This article gives a record of who in both the house and the senate are considered minorities. In the house there are 84 women, 44 African Americans, 34 Hispanics, 10 Asian Americans, and 2 Native Americans. In the senate there are 20 women, 2 African Americans, 3 Hispanic Americans, and 1 Asian American.

Analysis:

This article gives good evidence that our government is moving into a more diverse age. Although the number of ‘minorities’ in congress is what I believe to be somewhat small, their numbers are growing by the year. Is this leading to a government more representative of the people? Although your ethnicity is representative of your ancestry, a few generations in the states and you’ll be just another American which is why I think that having many different colors in congress isn’t what’s most important when trying to represent America as a whole. It is when the non-sense of racial supremacy comes into play that it becomes important to not have one race out way the other in congress. Instead of trying to fix the problem of the racial ratio in congress, I believe America should be trying to destroy this idea of racial supremacy altogether.

"This past school year enrollment increased by 6.2 percent. In addition, virtual schools, which provide supplementary course offerings, have about 740,000 course enrollments in the 2013-2014 school year." I think 2015 should mark an official beginning to the Age of Learning Digitally. Let's update those policies, people.
