Pinterest, the online bulletin board site that allows users to post pictures of their favorite things or creations, has spawned a new category in retail.


“Home decor” and “DIY and crafts” are among the most popular categories, with pinners posting pictures of decor and apparel items they have created from art supplies and found objects.


And these mini works of art are inspiring others, sending a growing legion of shoppers out looking for items to utilize in their own creations (think furniture pieces with great lines that will become magical with just the right paint technique, or vintage clothing ready to be transformed). Those without a crafty bent are searching for one-of-a-kind objects already created.
