Delaware Co. Corrections officer charged in animal abuse case - WRTV Indianapolis

Delaware Co. Corrections officer charged in animal abuse case - WRTV Indianapolis | Animal Rescue | Scoop.it
Delaware County Community Corrections officer Laverne Thomas is facing accusations of animal abuse after several dogs were confiscated from his property, Call 6 Investigator Kara Kenney reported.
Kristin Hall's insight:

How could a corrections officer do this to his own pets. Corrections officers deal with people who do things like this and he is doing it himself. It is disgusting; he absolutely should go to jail because he clearly knows better.

Beyond Food and Water

Beyond Food and Water | Animal Rescue | Scoop.it
While laws against chaining are present in many cities and counties, the majority of places still allow dogs to be chained for long periods of time.

Via Isabelle clere Escouteloup
Kristin Hall's insight:

In my opinion, why would you ever buy a dog and chain it up outside. They are supposed to be companions and all they want to do is be with their owners and be loved by someone. When you tie up the animal they feel restrainer, frightened and this can lead to people being left in danger. Dogs feel nervous when they can't move or get away if they want to so their initial reaction is to bite or attack because they don't know how else to protect themselves since they are constrained. If you are going to buy a dog don't leave it tied up all the time play with it and spend time with it because that is the point in having an animal.

Kristin Hall's insight:

This is the most disgusting and inhumane thing I have ever seen in my entire life. That is animal cruelty and torture to a new degree. These poor animals are helpless and people take advantage of the fact that they can't fight back. I can not even believe a human being would do this to a living creature.

So nice to know how many people helped and watched the demolition of the gas chamber that had killed so many innocent animals. It's important to stand up for such  good cause.

How Single Photographs Are Saving The Lives Of Shelter Animals Across The Country

How Single Photographs Are Saving The Lives Of Shelter Animals Across The Country | Animal Rescue | Scoop.it
A terrified dog walks into a rescue shelter. He's dirty, disoriented and unsure of what's about to happen. A person he doesn't know stands over him with a camera, snaps a photo and posts it on an adoption website.

Kristin Hall's insight:

This article was interesting to me because it showed how the smallest change in how you take a picture of an animal can help these rescues find homes quicker. It is all about the way you 'market' the animal. Taking appealing photos makes families want to adopt rather than seeing really sad depressing pictures.

Poll: Should Horse-Drawn Carriages Be Banned?

Poll: Should Horse-Drawn Carriages Be Banned? | Animal Rescue | Scoop.it
Most New York City Council members remain largely undecided about a possible ban of the horse-drawn carriages of Central Park. While New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is pushing ahead with his campaign promise to ban the carriages, the move also pits him against the labor unions that helped propel him to office.

Via Carina Eriksson
Kristin Hall's insight:

I understand that it is nice to have a horse drag you around through central park, but how unfair is that to the horses. They rarely get a break, they sit work through horrible weather, and they have tons of weight on their bodies. I think the working conditions should be better for these horses.

A dog unable to move its back legs after being found injured by kayakers in a remote gorge in Carmarthenshire is taken to TV "super vet" Noel Fitzpatrick's unit in Surrey.
Kristin Hall's insight:

This is absolutely horrible. The dog looks like it has not been taken care of and why was it just abandoned. People need to pay more attention to their animals and awareness needs to be more prominent to help these animals

Dog Fighting's New and Terrifying Trend: Trunking

Dog Fighting's New and Terrifying Trend: Trunking | Animal Rescue | Scoop.it
The dog-fighting world has a new trend called “trunking” and it’s gaining momentum. Ten dogs suspected to be victims were rescued from a Miami suburb.
Kristin Hall's insight:

I am disgusted by the way people treat animals. There is absolutely no reason that any animal should be without food, water, and adequate shelter. There is also no reason for any animal to be used for fighting purposes to entertain people. Thankfully there are people who rescue these animals and save them from horrible abuse. There should be more initiatives to help save animals from such cruelty.
