It is interesting to see not only the materials used to make art change over time, but the subject being depicted.  Clay to marble to bronze, and how some time periods have sculptures of mostly women.

I actually visited this exhibit while in Portland.  It was incredible to see in person.  The array of subjects that the sculptures reveal is vast and  the detail and accuracy in them are amazing.

I find it interesting that much of Washington was designed with Greece in mind, to make the connection to the ancient creators of democracy.  It is also interesting that the artists of ancient Athens would make art that criticized the contradictions of society.   It isn't a common thought, to think that the ancients had social commentary, in art and poetry.

While it is hard to tell if this is all true, it is interesting to think of the Greeks actually painting their sculptures.  I do recall Prof. Kaatz saying in class that the black figure and the clay colored figures were used to differentiate between man and women though.
