This Will Revolutionize Education

Many technologies have promised to revolutionize education, but so far none has. With that in mind, what could revolutionize education? These ideas have been percolating since I wrote my PhD...

¿Cómo podemos empezar a hacerlo?

Professional learning through Micro-credentialing

Professional learning through Micro-credentialing | Ana Paula De Pretto | Scoop.it

Over the last few years micro-credentialing and badging have been buzz words in the education world. Yet if you look closely into what micro-credential and badges are; they have the potential to transform what professional learning for educators looks like.

Micro-credentialing recognizes educators for the skills they learn in order to build learning experiences for their students. The perks of micro-credentialing includes the ability to have choice, pace and personal growth needs met. School districts can use micro-credentialing to provide incentives for educators to deepen their knowledge. Badges are the physical representation received once proficiency is met.

Empathy Project Opening

Empathy Project Opening | Ana Paula De Pretto | Scoop.it
I have completed sharing the Empathy Project portraits and audio that I have processed thus far, and will return to posting them when I have then next group of five ready.

I am very pleased that the hospital I work for decided to make this project public. They recently renovated the lobby of one of the three hospitals in the system and chose to display the first five portraits in the project there and, to make it even better, mounted audio bars beneath each portrait so that visitors can listen to the stories. In a few months, they are opening another outpatient facility and the second group of five will be displayed there, also with the audio!

The Neuroscience of Social Pain

The Neuroscience of Social Pain | Ana Paula De Pretto | Scoop.it

Christopher Bergland

Social pain is caused by events such as feeling excluded from social connections or activities, rejection, bullying, the sickness or death of a loved one, a romantic break-up…

The new study found that social pain activates similar brain circuits whether someone was suffering personally or if they experienced the pain as an empathic response to another person's social pain. From an evolutionary standpoint, these pain responses protect the individual but also fortify social connectivity which protects the collective.

The February 2014 study titled, “Empathy for Social Exclusion Involves the Sensory-Discriminative Component of Pain: A Within-Subject fMRI Study” from the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) of Trieste was published in the journal Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience.

Siete actitudes imprescindibles para aprender a aprender   | Ana Paula De Pretto | Scoop.it

(Empathic Design) Empathy Mapping: grok your users

(Empathic Design) Empathy Mapping: grok your users  | Ana Paula De Pretto | Scoop.it
Fill in the empathy maps (15 min)

Divide the group into pairs or trios. Work out which sub-group tackles which persona, and allow 10 - 15 mins minutes to fill in their empathy map, depending on the number of small groups you have (the more small groups the less time – you'll need to leave more time for everyone to share their maps with the larger group).

Remember, you can create empathy maps for an existing product to better understand how your personas feel about it right now. Or, you can create the map with a new design in mind to help articulate how you want customers to feel about it in it's future state.

Pay special attention to pain points. The whole point of your project is to improve a product or service, right? Think about what the persona hears from friends or says about the product in terms of the pain they experience when using it.
