Amur Leopard - Saving Wildlife - Wildlife Conservation Society | Amur Leopard Conservation | Scoop.it
Erin Zhang's insight:

•Given the Amur leopard’s very small numbers, scientists believe inbreeding is likely occurring.

•To help increase genetic diversity in this subspecies’ population, experts have proposed relocating leopards from other areas.

•Along with habitat loss, if inbreeding and disease in Amur leopards can be kept in check, WCS and its partners believe there is great potential for improving the species’ survival rates in Russia and northeastern China.

•Efforts to save the Amur leopard, and conservation plans include increasing the current population as well as development of a captive breeding center in order to establish a second, separate population.

• WCS is engaged in several activities to improve wildlife and habitat management in leopard range.
