144 herpers filled out the poll. Out of 144, 0 never handle herps. 65% of the surveyed population handles herps on a regular basis, while only 35% occasionally handle.

 

82 birders filled out their poll. 18% handle on a regular basis; 61% handle occasionally; and a whopping 21% NEVER handle. This is drastically different from the herpers’ poll. Herping and birding cultures are evidently very different. Why?

14 New Species of Endangered “Dancing” Frogs Discovered in India [Video] | Extinction Countdown, Scientific American Blog Network | Amphibian world | Scoop.it

The 14 new species were described last week in the Ceylon Journal of Science, bringing the total number of known dancing frog species in India to 24. All of the tiny frogs, the largest of which measure just 35 millimeters, come from the genus Micrixalus, which can only be found in the Western Ghats.
