AMENDMENT XXVI ARTICLE 2 Today in Civil Rights History: The 26th Amendment Lowers Voting Age to 18

AMENDMENT XXVI ARTICLE 2 Today in Civil Rights History: The 26th Amendment Lowers Voting Age to 18 | Amendments in 2011-James Gallagher-December 7, 2011 | Scoop.it

The lowering of the voting age down to 18 is a valuabe amendment to the constitution. July 1 2009 was the 38 anniversary of that amendment. This is practiced by almost every 18 year old citizen when they go out to vote. While there isnt a problem directly affecting the amendment there are many people today who think 18 is to young. While 18 may be the age of an unexperienced person i think they should still have the right to vote becasue they still have a valuable contribution they can provide to the USA.

AMENDMENT IX ARTICLE 2 9th Amendment

AMENDMENT IX ARTICLE 2 9th Amendment | Amendments in 2011-James Gallagher-December 7, 2011 | Scoop.it

The XXVI amendment is a very controversial amendment, people interpret it in a variety of ways as shown in the article, many people believe is preserves rights such as Gay marriage or whether or not abortion should be illegal. While the amendment is so much as being threatened, it is highly contested becasause people are confused over whose job it should be to interpret what the amendment really entitles. I think issues such as gay marriage should be allowed through the 9th ammendment because if somebody is born that way they should not be deprived of their life.

AMENDMENT II ARTICLE 2 Second Amendment Issues

The second amendment is a very contested topic today, the views divided America. Many people are concerned with how guns should be carried, wielded, what guns should be allowed and whether or not guns should be allowed in the first place. Jim Webb in the attatched article is pro II amendment and I agree with him in that matter. I think guns add ( in the form of small fire arms) not only add physical defense but also a mental sense of security that American people need.

AMENDMENT I ARTICLE 2 First Amendment Issues — Media Access Project

AMENDMENT I ARTICLE 2 First Amendment Issues — Media Access Project | Amendments in 2011-James Gallagher-December 7, 2011 | Scoop.it

This website is dedicated to a project set up to preserve the rights the I amendment that every single American citizen is entitled to. This is a great project/orginization because it protecting something that is obviously being threatened. If that right was being threatened this orginization would not exist because theyre would be no reason for them to. I believe the I amendment is the most important amendment in the entire Constitution because it encompasses the beliefs and values that created America. Without the I amendment, America would not exist today.

AMENDMENT XXVI ARTICLE 1 Constituting America » US Constitution Amendment XXVI

AMENDMENT XXVI ARTICLE 1 Constituting America » US Constitution Amendment XXVI | Amendments in 2011-James Gallagher-December 7, 2011 | Scoop.it

One of the main reason the voting age was lowered to 18 is because many people thought if they can join the army and die at 18 why cant they vote? Majority of 18 year old citizens vote today. Like said in another post the threat isnt really being threatened but many people think that 18 is to young because 18 year olds are "unexperienced". I do not agree because if somebody is old enough to live on their own , they are old enough to vote.

AMENDMENT IX ARTICLE 1 The 'Silent' Ninth Amendment Gives Americans Rights They Don't Know They Have | Civil Liberties | AlterNet

AMENDMENT IX ARTICLE 1 The 'Silent' Ninth Amendment Gives Americans Rights They Don't Know They Have | Civil Liberties | AlterNet | Amendments in 2011-James Gallagher-December 7, 2011 | Scoop.it

The ninth amendment is very contested today because it is often overlooked, misinterpreted or manipulated. The ninth right actually encompasses issues such as gay rights, or abortion however many government powers "over look" this. More recently as issues that relate to this amendmet become more frequent so does the cause to straighten it out. The main reason why the right is being threatended is because many people are unclear as to what the right actually entitles. I think it is very important to adress the issues relating to this amendment because it encompasses very important aspects of our modern society.

Amendment II « Parker County Blog | Amendments in 2011-James Gallagher-December 7, 2011 | Scoop.it

This short news update is a perfect example as to how people are practicing theyre constitutional rights today. It shows how Phil King is pro II amendment under the statement that right now is the most prudent time to be practicing it.  The fact that somebody needs to show support for something is indicator that whatever they are supporting is being threatened. With the II amendment theres is alot of contested views. I personally believe the II amendment should never be repealed because every American deserves some sort of protection. Not only the personal protection but when people can feel safe knowing they can defend themselves it builds a more stable country.

This is an excellent example as to how people are practicing theyre constitutional rights today, it shows people effectivley fighting for the rights they are entitled to. While the problem was resolved by the US Supreme Court, a handfull of cities were prohibiting the distrubution of leaflets and flyers which is a direct violation of the I amendment. I do not think this should be taken away from anyone, freedom of speech is one of the ideals that America was founded on and everybody deserves.
