Bloom's Digital Taxonomy for The Web

Bloom's Digital Taxonomy for The Web | All Things Digital Learning | Scoop.it
Bloom's Digital Taxonomy for The Web is another of our most popular posts of 2016. The visual features a number of key educational web tools to digitally operationalize Bloom's thinking levels. For each of these thinking levels ( creating, evaluating, analyzing, applying, understanding, and remembering) we came up with five web tools that better correspond with it. Our selection process is entirely based on our long-standing experience of reviewing educational web tools. We invite you to check it out and share with your colleagues. Feel free to download, print, or share the visual the way you want provided you include a link back to our website. Enjoy

How to Incubate Creativity in School Through Making and Discovery - Mind/Shift #makered

How to Incubate Creativity in School Through Making and Discovery - Mind/Shift #makered | All Things Digital Learning | Scoop.it
Math teacher Laura Kretschmar gave students a rubric with specific goals around collaboration, communication and instructions to use various functions in the program, but not a lot else. She’s intentionally giving them a lot of freedom to play with the program, create cool designs and figure out what the functions do.

“I think “y” means, like, going up,” says Juritzy Maldonado. “So to pull it up, I’m going to try to change the number.” She punches in 200 for “y” and watches the image she’s creating shift upward. Another group discovers that if they hit “repeat” multiple times, they can create a parachute-like design that they’ve figured out how to color in various ways. That wasn’t their original plan, but they’re running with it now.

MathChat App Allows Students to Collaborate on Math Homework ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

MathChat App Allows Students to Collaborate on Math Homework ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | All Things Digital Learning | Scoop.it
MathChat is an interesting new iPad  app that I discovered recently. As its name indicate, MathChat is an app that allows students to collaborate and work together on math problems.  This collaboration takes place in group chats where members get to exchange messages, use pointers to show how to solve a problem, or draw and add arrows to provide illustration and guidance on Math concepts. This collaborative feature of MathChat resembles to a great extent the work Whiteboard apps do.

Collaboration -- for the expansion of multiple learning opportunities.  Should students be encouraged to collaborate with others on tests and assignments?  Why is it that when students look up a word in a dictionary or consult a reliable reference source, that's OK, but if they consult a friend, that is sometimes considered cheating?

Using Book Creator as an Assessment Tool

Using Book Creator as an Assessment Tool | All Things Digital Learning | Scoop.it

Book creator has probably been the app I have used most, in my teaching, with pupils and in my training. The blank canvas aspect means it can be used across the whole curriculum and the addition of the pen tool in the last few weeks has added to that.

We use Showbie at school for pupils to share their work, including books made with Book Creator from the iPads and home to the teachers for assessment. Recently, we have used both the Pen Tool and Record feature to give feedback on the pupils' eBooks. The pupils send their books using Showbie and the teacher opens them up on his/her iPad. They can then annotate with their voice, pen and text. The book can then be sent back to the pupils using Showbie. The pupil can either change the original book and delete the annotated one or change the annotated book and delete the original.

The screenshot shows a book of a Science experiment. The teacher can annotate with arrows but also add audio feedback. All elements of Book Creator can be deleted so the pupil can restore any annotated book to the original.

This is obviously not a new idea but the pen tool has certainly made this quicker in a widely used app such as Book Creator.

iPads + project based learning = limitless possibilities - Daily Genius

iPads + project based learning = limitless possibilities - Daily Genius | All Things Digital Learning | Scoop.it
Though more than two years into my school’s implementation of project based learning, yesterday, I found myself excited all over again. I was helping a second grade teacher enhance her landforms PBL by using Padlet as part of the KWL process and suddenly realized that this approach to student-centered learning has truly become a part of who we are as a school.

My adventures in combining PBLs and iPads began with a gift of two carts. I had just started taking the PBLU online courses when the head of our independent pre-k through eighth grade school challenged each grade-level team to teach one unit using the PBL approach while finding authentic ways to draw in iPads. As the lower school technology integration person, I immediately went on a quest to find a guinea pig willing to plan and co-teach a PBL unit incorporating iPads. This is the story of that first experience. . .

In this guide iPadWells walks teachers through the process they use in their school to create, share and teach using videos. YouTube is the principal video hosting used in this guide.
