Though the release schedule may have been sporadic and the quality of the films inconsistent at best, X-Men is the longest running current comic book franchise at 14 years and counting. One year shy of a milestone anniversary most of the gang behind the series has reunited for quite possibly their finest film to date. There are a number of reasons why. One is that the movie is based on a near legendary fan favorite storyline. Another is that the franchise was in the unique position of boasting two stellar casts of different ages who could be united for a time-traveling romp. Yet another is the fact that comic book movies are such big business at the movies these days that the filmmakers got a near limitless budget and complete creative control to pull together a genuine epic.
