Documentary to tell story of HIV-AIDS in Canada | Metro

Documentary to tell story of HIV-AIDS in Canada | Metro | Aislinn's Yr 9 Term 4 Journal | Scoop.it

I think this article is an example of the common culture of treating HIV/AIDS as irrelevant or 'something that only happens to other people a small amount of the time' as well as how to raise awareness of the disease. When Paul Saltzman learnt how many Canadians were infected, he immediately grabbed at the opportunity to do more to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS in Canada.

While Canada is not Australia their society and ours share a lot of the same core beliefs and values. Therefore problems in Canada are generally problems in Australia and the same solutions generally work for both of us. Because of this, I think that if such a documentary were to be released and advertised in Australia, it would significantly increase HIV/AIDS awareness.

HAZ Consultancy Services program sees growth - hiv/aids ... | Aislinn's Yr 9 Term 4 Journal | Scoop.it

It is nice to see that the HAZ service is getting off its feet. I believe that it will provide a invaluable and much-needed service to Zimbabwe. I find it very good that Zimbabwe is looking to improve the quality of life of those infected with HIV/AIDS, though I think a sister program aimed at safe sex practices and HIV/AIDS awareness would greatly benefit the program.

Teens born with HIV not telling partners - Washington Times

Teens born with HIV not telling partners - Washington Times | Aislinn's Yr 9 Term 4 Journal | Scoop.it

This study is quite alarming and demonstrates why HIV is spreading so rapidly. This article exemplifies what aren't good safe-sex practices.

This article also explains why such practices are so common and highlights the need for more sex-education on what to do once you get HIV/AIDS.

I think this article is well-rounded and shows all sides to the story, and, unlike most articles and studies, suggests ways to improve the alarming figures the study uncovered.

HIV/AIDS and the History of Sexual Networks « Edinburgh Medical ...

This article is very interesting and again shows a different perspective than the norm on HIV/AIDS. I like how a historical approach is taken and the implied fact that social perceptions could have something to do with it, even past perceptions on the disease.

Costly lifestyle diseases 'uphill problem' - Bangladesh News 24 hours

Costly lifestyle diseases 'uphill problem' - Bangladesh News 24 hours | Aislinn's Yr 9 Term 4 Journal | Scoop.it

Bangladesh is a perfect example of lifestyle diseases and this article illustrates it. The article states that diabetes and other lifestyle diseases are more prevalent in cities than villages, implying that villages are more 'healthy' to live in.

While it is more geared towards highlighting the problem and not suggesting something to do about it, I feel that it is a good article that demonstrates what lifestyle diseases are.

Health: 3 Tips for Diabetes Month | CaryCitizen

Health: 3 Tips for Diabetes Month | CaryCitizen | Aislinn's Yr 9 Term 4 Journal | Scoop.it

I like this article as it gives accurate statistics and isn't out to grill people for being diabetic. In a nice and friendly way, it 'dumbs down' the scientific research into easy steps to help counter/avoid diabetes.

I think this article is well-rounded and emphasises that diabetes is a lifestyle disease above anything else. It gives nice, simple ways to reduce the risk of getting diabetes (and other lifestyle diseases as well).

Kigali City Outlines New HIV/Aids Response Plan - AllAfrica.com

Kigali City Outlines New HIV/Aids Response Plan - AllAfrica.com | Aislinn's Yr 9 Term 4 Journal | Scoop.it

While I am glad that the Kingali City council is trying raise awareness of HIV/AIDS and respond to any new cases of it, I feel that they are going about some of it the wrong way.

While they are trying to raise awareness of the disease, I feel that targeting the gay population as a group that "creates specific vulnerabilities" to be quite discriminatory as I cannot imagine how the gay population would be at a higher risk of contracting HIV/AIDS than every other sexually active person in the population. I would like to see their evidence and statistics.

I am also not sure how "informal settlements" are a "population group".

I seriously wonder whether this website is reliable.

Articles of Health: Dr. Robert O. Young's pH Miracle Lifestyle and ... | Aislinn's Yr 9 Term 4 Journal | Scoop.it

This article delivers a very scientific definition of lifestyle diseases and how to delay their progress. I quite liked the scientific view to the topic and it was very informative (the second half of the article). The view the article took was very different and refreshing.
