My name is Australia and I'm an alcoholic

My name is Australia and I'm an alcoholic | Aislinn's Yr 9 Journal | Scoop.it

This article is a good, Australian article that highlights the societal norm of binge drinking, and shows that it is not right. This article challenges Australian culture and what we do about binge drinking.

Upswing in STI cases prompts more students to seek testing - Bowdoin Orient

Upswing in STI cases prompts more students to seek testing - Bowdoin Orient | Aislinn's Yr 9 Journal | Scoop.it

Though this article is American, the information is relevant. After an email was sent out, warning people of the multitude of STI's in the school, many students went to get checked. I think that raising awareness about STI's is good, and that more tertiary education centres should follow their example. I'm slightly concerned about the lack of awareness/complacency about STI's.

Morning-After Pill (Emergency Contraception) - The Tennessean

Morning-After Pill (Emergency Contraception) - The Tennessean | Aislinn's Yr 9 Journal | Scoop.it

This article is about a type of contraception, the morning-after pill. We've done this in class and all the information seems to be relevant, although it's American, not Australian. I would disregard any statistics or mentions of country-specific information,  though generally, it's a good article.

New Zealand offers contraception to women on welfare

New Zealand offers contraception to women on welfare | Aislinn's Yr 9 Journal | Scoop.it

This article is very controversial and shows two sides to the debate. Despite this, I think the feminists are just stirring up trouble and the women on welfare would be grateful to not have to buy contraception.

IUDs May Be Most Effective Emergency Contraceptive - Medscape

This is from an Australian source, with international data, and says that IUD's may be the most effective of emergency contraception. The study identifies Egypt as an 'outlier', removing them from the information, which made the IUD's the most effective emergency contraception. This is slightly  concerning, but it may be that Egyptian doctors aren't as well-trained as other countries. This article makes me feel a multitude of things, both confusion, concern and interest.

Binge drinking - as contagious as the common cold?

Binge drinking - as contagious as the common cold? | Aislinn's Yr 9 Journal | Scoop.it

This article explores what effect your partner has on your drinking habits. This is very relevant to the topics we've been studying and shows people the dangers of dating, or drinking, with other alcoholics incase you become one. It isn't Australian though, so the results may be slightly different here.
