Boeing's New 777X Is a Hit. Now What About the Old One?

Boeing's New 777X Is a Hit. Now What About the Old One? | Allplane: Airlines Strategy & Marketing | Scoop.it
Because Being won't start delivering its 777X for more than seven years, the company will be hard-pressed to sell enough 777s to maintain cash flow and reported earnings

“The launch of the 777X appears to have left the 777 program, which accounts for an estimated quarter of BA’s total profit, in the lurch,” Oppenheimer & Co. (OPY)analyst Yair Reiner wrote in a note to clients. “The 777 needs to hold down the fort for six-seven years until the 777X enters into service, but currently has only 3.3 years of backlog.”

Airbus Sees A380 Demand Recovering After Wing Issues Hurt Sales

Airbus Sees A380 Demand Recovering After Wing Issues Hurt Sales | Allplane: Airlines Strategy & Marketing | Scoop.it
European Aeronautic, Defence & Space Co. expects demand for the Airbus SAS A380 superjumbo, the world’s biggest passenger plane, to recover after issues with the wing and the global financial crisis hurt sales.

Airbus, targeting to sell 25 of the superjumbos this year, won an order for 20 A380s in June from Doric Asset Finance Ltd. even as Deutsche Lufthansa AG scrapped contracts for three. Newer models from Boeing Co. and others that Airbus itself is building mean the economics of the A380 need further improvement, Tom Williams, Airbus executive vice president for programs, said in June.

The Best Flight Attendant Uniforms In American History

The Best Flight Attendant Uniforms In American History | Allplane: Airlines Strategy & Marketing | Scoop.it

Image via PaperMag.com. There was once a time when American flight attendants had uniforms designed by Pierre Balmain, Halston and Emilio Pucci, as well as other notable names. In the past, the stewardess was a model of sorts—each woman had to measure a certain height and weight proportion (a 5'4" woman couldn't weigh more than 125 pounds in order to apply for a stewardess position with American Airlines), and was required to be single and reasonably attractive, as determined by each airline.
