January Bump Math Games

January Bump Math Games | Addition | Scoop.it

Bump is a math game that's been around for a while. Basically, the kids roll dice, figure the sum and cover the answer with their marker. There is a twist to the game though. The full directions are included in the download file. Both addition and multiplication versions are included. Enjoy these math games from Denise Boehm of Sunny Days!

Esther Kang's insight:

This is a similar math board game that my mentor used for a math center recently.  But it is different that it has a twist to it.  I really like how students are able to bump their friends' marker off if they land on the same space, and that there are "locked spaces" if there are two of the same markers in one space.  This will engage students even more.

Esther Kang's insight:

I would use this for math centers or computer/technology centers.  There are students that need extra help and practice with basic addition and subtraction in order for them to truly understand number sense.  This app will not only help students to learn but it will also engage students because it is fun and interesting and also uses technology.

Counting Morning Work

Counting Morning Work | Addition | Scoop.it
Esther Kang's insight:

This kinds of math worksheets will allow students to link simple addition to real life objects that they use daily.  There are so many worksheets that do not have any illustrations and just simply have numbers, addition, and subtraction facts on them.  Students are to complete those worksheets without knowing any purpose for doing them.  In my classroom, I will try to always use visualization and illustration that goes along with my math lessons.

My students will really enjoy this math game that they can play during computer center or math center.  This is another game where they can practice their addition instead of having a direct teacher included lesson.

Mrs. Kelly's Kindergarten: math centers

Mrs. Kelly's Kindergarten: math centers | Addition | Scoop.it
Esther Kang's insight:

Fun and hands-on activities for math centers are important. When students are forced to do boring math without any help at centers, they will not be motivated.  I saw that happen in my classroom a lot.  Because all the teachers are preoccupied during center time, students will just simply sit at their centers not doing anything if it is no fun.  I saw that using math games for centers really motivated the students.  It is just the matter of having math games that is actually going to help students develop their math skills.
