Il consumo di caffè, bere quattro tazze ogni giorno, può essere parte di «una dieta sana in persone sane” ed è associato ad un minore rischio di morte fino al 64%. È il risultato di una ricerca presentata oggi al congresso ESC, il congresso europeo di cardiologia in corso a Barcellona. Lo studio di lungo periodo su oltre 20.000 partecipanti suggerisce che il caffè può essere parte quindi di una dieta da considerata ufficialmente sana. Lo scopo di questo studio era quello di esaminare l’associazione tra il consumo di caffè e il rischio di mortalità in un gruppo di persone che vivono nei paesi mediterranei, di mezza età. Lo studio è stato condotto nell’ambito del Progetto Seguimiento Universidad de Navarra (SUN), ed è stato avviato nel 1999 su 22 500 spagnoli. Durante un periodo di dieci anni sono morti 337 partecipanti. I ricercatori hanno scoperto che i partecipanti che consumavano almeno quattro tazze di caffè al giorno avevano un rischio inferiore del 64% di mortalità per tutte le cause rispetto a coloro che non consumavano mai o quasi mai caffè. «Il caffè è una delle bevande più diffuse in tutto il mondo», ha affermato il dottor Adela Navarro, cardiologo dell’ospedale di Navarra, Pamplona. Studi precedenti hanno già suggerito che bere il caffè potrebbe essere inversamente associato a rischio per tutte le cause di morte, ma questo non era stato indagato in un paese mediterraneo.
