The health foods doctors say don't work: From blueberries to cod liver oil and margarine that 'cuts cholesterol' | A Healthy Lifestyle for Jamie | Scoop.it

From this I've learned to take notice to some healthy foods that may not actually be healthy for you. For example, smoothies, certain oils, orange juice, and cholesterol lowering margins aren't good for you as assumed by many consumers. They also state interesting truths about other things: "Everyone thinks that carrots help with eye health, but, in fact, they are of no more use to our eyes than any other vegetable." This website has helped me to know what to and what to not purchase/consume in college and when I have children to feed. Knowing these facts will help me maintain a healthier lifestyle.

I learned a lot about a healthy lifestyle through scoop it. On a women’s health website, http://healthcare.16mb.com/womenshealth/, I was taught the six steps to maintaining good health:

“get a mentor, choose foods that are as close to nature as possible, find a sport or activity you can enjoy that will get you moving, set small, attainable goals, celebrate when you’ve reached smaller goals, be patient, and remember that you didn’t gain the weight overnight.”

With these steps, I have learned what simple things I need to do to maintain the body type I want. Also these steps will help me to keep at the weight I am in high school, which is one of my goals.

From reading this article I have learned that not only a good diet and exercise is important for a healthy lifestyle, but also the amount of sleep you get. The article states, “Numerous studies show that getting a good night’s rest not only feels good, it is a key part of living a healthy life." This is key to my plan so I can know the important keys to keeping my family health in the future and keeping myself healthy from now and throughout college. I've been taught by this that sleep is important for memory storage, behaviors, and work attentiveness. Muscle-Building Teens May Go to Extremes, Study Finds - Health.com

Muscle-Building Teens May Go to Extremes, Study Finds - Health.com | A Healthy Lifestyle for Jamie | Scoop.it

Although I need to keep myself and future children healthy, I need to be aware of the possible ramifications that could cause. http://news.health.com/ has opened my eyes to children being “too healthy” or exercising too much. Eating disorders are real. “some studies have suggested that when you look at all forms of body-image worries — not just the quest for thinness, but for a toned, athletic form, too — boys are just as affected as girls.” This has taught me that health is important, but body image shouldn’t be the main focus of life.

Unemployment Takes Toll on the Heart

Unemployment Takes Toll on the Heart | A Healthy Lifestyle for Jamie | Scoop.it

I have learned from this that unemployment can not only hurt someone's financial status, but also their health. The article states, "we need to be aware of the effects of the reality of job loss on a person's heart," Steinbaum says. "In this day and age, when unemployment rates are so high, and job loss is not an uncommon situation, we must pay attention to the toll that this is having on an individual's risk of heart disease, especially within that first year." From this quote, I have learned that unemployment can hurt someone's heart and raise the possibility percentage that they will have a heart attack. I now will make sure to get an education just to make sure, if my husband’s job fails, that i will be able to stay financially and physically stable.

YouBeauty - The Science of a Beautiful You

YouBeauty - The Science of a Beautiful You | A Healthy Lifestyle for Jamie | Scoop.it

On youbeauty.com I learned what to not eat and what to not feed my children.

“Researchers and health professionals have long been aware of the consequences associated with eating fast food, but until now, no one realized how quickly the damage begins. A new study, published in the Canadian Journal of Cardiology, indicates that damage to the arteries occurs almost immediately after just one—that’s right, one—junk food-type meal. Based on the science, moderation with junk food doesn’t really exist.”

I was taught that to maintain a healthy lifestyle, I will need to keep away from fast food restaurants. With the damage of one meal affecting the consumer “almost immediately” after the meal, it has been an eye-opener of what I need to look out for when I am a mom.
