A Better Vision - Good News!
Researchers have found that when a message is too negative, people not only don't change their behaviors in the desired direction, they might actually go the other way. The problem with many environmental messages is that they are so negative that the fear/denial response is often triggered. It's even hard for me. I'm using this to post positive messages that show hope, and allow visualizing a positive future. I understand the situation is dire, but we get what we focus on. We need a positive vision of the future. This is my effort to help create it.

Why You Should Embrace Negative Emotions | A Better Vision - Good News! | Scoop.it
In our relentless pursuit of happiness, it's easy to shove aside, make light of, or otherwise evade negative emotions. But the truth is that unpleasant feelings are not only inevitable, they can also play a key role in health and well-being.
Dawn Drake's insight:

And then there is the other perspective, that avoiding or feeling guilty about negative emotions is counter-productive, and that negative emotions can lead to good outcomes. What seemed to me to be the most important point, and the key to finding value in the negative, seemed to be mentioned almost in passing--that gaining benefit from negative emotions comes from making meaning of them. ""We found that those participants who were making meaning out of their experiences with a mixture of happiness and sadness actually showed increases in their psychological well-being,"

How To Wire Your Brain For Happiness

How To Wire Your Brain For Happiness | A Better Vision - Good News! | Scoop.it
The secret to lasting happiness might be neatly summed up in a cheesy neuroscience joke: "The neurons that fire together, wire together."
Dawn Drake's insight:

An "attitude of gratitude," being mindful of the good things that happen to you each day. These are ways to help us learn...or train...ourselves to be happy. I doubt this would cure a chemically based clinical depression, but it's so easy to fall into negative attitudes that leave us feeling discouraged and pessimistic about life. This article has suggestions about how to overcome that self-induced tendency toward unhappiness. And there is plenty of evidence that happy people tend to be more successful and have better relationships, so making the effort to consciously condition yourself toward happiness should get easier over time.

Dawn Drake's insight:

This article does a good job of presenting nature as important to conserve and protect, and pointing out that the threat to nature is urgent, without pushing the fear buttons so hard that it is likely to push the reader into denial.
