How are artificial intelligence, virtual reality and augmented reality changing the landscape of education? What is Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality or Artificial Intelligence? Are these words going to take over the world – or how about taking over our classrooms? We hear these terms and have no idea what they really are and how to use them in the classrooms. Have you stopped to think what these could mean for you as an educator? Disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality and augmented reality are changing the landscape of education – be it K-12, higher-ed or vocational studies. While these technologies are in their nascent stages, the benefits they bring to the table such as low cost, greater efficiency, and wider coverage are overwhelming. In this webinar, Dr. L Robert Furman will give you a brief explanation of these technologies and share ways to use them in the classroom. In this webinar, you will know how to: What are Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence? How do you use these technologies in the classroom? What are the pros and cons if you use them in the classrooms?

How 'Dungeons & Dragons' Primes Students for Interdisciplinary Learning, Including STEM

How 'Dungeons & Dragons' Primes Students for Interdisciplinary Learning, Including STEM | 3D Virtual-Real Worlds: Ed Tech | Scoop.it

A group of Grade 9 students in Texas who substantially outperformed their district on a statewide standardized test all had one surprising thing in common: they all were members of the school’s Dungeons & Dragons club. A coincidence? Otherwise, how does a fantasy role-playing game produce improved test scores? The obvious explanation is that the club draws the bright kids who are already academically inclined. But many of the kids in the club at the Title I school had histories of struggling with academics.

Jobs at All Levels Now Require Digital Literacy. Here's Proof.

Jobs at All Levels Now Require Digital Literacy. Here's Proof.  | 3D Virtual-Real Worlds: Ed Tech | Scoop.it
Newark, Del.

It's no secret that American workplaces are becoming more reliant on technology.

But what may surprise the country's K-12 educators and policymakers is how work at nearly every rung of the employment ladder is becoming more digitized. Often, the skills needed to succeed have less to do with computer programming than what experts call "digital literacy"—the ability to interpret, create, and strategically use digital information.

"Everyone's job is changing," said Mark Muro, a senior fellow and policy director at the Brookings Institution, a think tank. "The ability to read and then conduct first-order analysis of digital information is highly valued in almost all work environments."

To better understand the central role of digital literacy in the workplace, Education Week took a deep look at four occupations in the Christiana Care Health System. It's the largest private employer in Delaware, with 11,600 employees and an expected 1,500 new hires this year.

Three Good Places to Find Music and Sounds for Multimedia Projects

Three Good Places to Find Music and Sounds for Multimedia Projects | 3D Virtual-Real Worlds: Ed Tech | Scoop.it

Two weeks ago my tip of the week prompted a bunch of questions from readers regarding where to find and how to use music in multimedia projects. Much like with videos watched on YouTube or streamed through Netflix, just because you can listen to a piece of music online that doesn’t mean you necessarily have the rights to re-use it in a multimedia project. That’s why I recommend trying to find music and sound effects that are either in the public domain or have a Creative Commons license that allows for re-use. To that end, here are three good sources that I recommend.

How do we teach students to identify fake news?

How do we teach students to identify fake news? | 3D Virtual-Real Worlds: Ed Tech | Scoop.it
In a “post-truth” era where people are increasingly influenced by their emotions and beliefs over factual information, fact and fiction can be difficult to distinguish, and fake news can spread rapidly through mainstream media sources and social networks. Moreover, fake news is often meant to do harm, by tricking us into believing a lie or unfairly discrediting a person or political movement.
