3 Crump Isaiah 's insight:

This video seemed to show how the first amendment was still revelant to the times in which are very much recent. The man specifically refferences an instasnce of a case tat occured in the 1940s. However, there was case that expressed symbolic freedoms in high schools as well. All of these provisions under the first amendment are also stemmed from the selective indoctrination clauses.

3 Crump Isaiah 's insight:

The due process clause is the individual's right to fair govenrment procedures. The video provides an example where an individual cannot be sentenced to time in prison just because he is suspected of committing a crime. A defendant has the right to a fair trail and jury. The 5th amendment states that the federal government can not take a way a person's life liberty or property without due process of law. The 14th amendment states that the state government cannot take away a person's life' liberty, or property without due process of law.

Welcome to the CIA Web Site — Central Intelligence Agency

Welcome to the CIA Web Site — Central Intelligence Agency | 3 Crump Isaiah | Scoop.it
3 Crump Isaiah 's insight:

The head of the Central Intelligence Agency is John O. Brennan. The really interesting aspect of this is that although he was titled the director of the central intelligence agency I had seen that he was also titled the CEO. The policy that the CIA engage in are often matters having to do with foreign affairs. I have cited their website many times in search of information about other countries and I was able to get specific information about crime rate, population, standard of living, etc. The reason why the CIA is authorized to function independently from the president is the fact that the CIA is mainly aimed to act in covert action, unless the president finds another agency better suited for these problems.

C-SPAN Survey of Presidential Leadership - Overall Ranking - C-SPAN

3 Crump Isaiah 's insight:

I chose Abraham Lincoln  and no it was not because he "abolished slavery". I would have to agree with Abraham Lincoln being the number one president. I believe that the task that was before Abraham Lincoln was larger than any president could have taken on. We are talking about the development of an entire nation at stake and this man was able to successfully reunify all of America. The abolition of slavery is a mere side effect in comparison to the feat the Abraham Lincoln was able to achieve. In my humble opinion an achievement that makes him deserving of the number one in ranking the presidents.

Why Presidents Are Also Celebrities

Why Presidents Are Also Celebrities | 3 Crump Isaiah | Scoop.it
The Roosevelts transformed the United States—and made its leaders into stars.
3 Crump Isaiah 's insight:

Well I was completely unaware that Theodore Roosevelt was critically wounded and continued to conduct his speech. The article explains that while it was a dangerously foolish idea that the president would actually establish a tradition (in a sense) where the president would have the duty to define their presidency through every action.

3 Crump Isaiah 's insight:

Here, president Reagan acts as the chief diplomat. Through asking Mikhail Gorbachev to reunite Germany and tear down the Berlin Wall, he acts as the chief spokesperson for the United States' values for liberation within East and Central Europe. Ultimately, Reagan's demands to have this wall removed express his role as the chief in foreign policy.

3 Crump Isaiah 's insight:

This game remonstrated the difficulty of sausage making. The game allowed for you to choose an avatar, political ideology, an ideological preference and a state to represent in Congress. I crafted my bill so well that when the president tried to veto it, I carried a two thirds vote throughout all of Congress. The greatest thing about that is that my party wasn't even the majority and I was able to override the presidents veto. Bringing things back to terms however, this game depicts the struggles in policy making within Congress.

3 Crump Isaiah 's insight:

I've learned that between the periods of the Guided Age and the present, women have played a much more prevalent role in the way that politics are governed. In the year 1920, women were allowed to vote. The first woman elected to Congress was before the time women were given the right to vote (in 1916 to be exact). Surprisingly, however, only 15% of Congress members are women. These numbers are sure to increase within the coming years.

3 Crump Isaiah 's insight:

This political cartoon brings about a juxtaposition between the Obama administration and the promises made. Here, Hillary boldly proclaims that she used private e-mails to avoid media scrutiny. Yet, she still promises to continue Obama's plan of transparency. In essence what the cartoon expresses is that she can't have it both ways and this reflects poorly on the Obama administration.

3 Crump Isaiah 's insight:

The Equal Protection clause is clause implied by powers given to the people through the 14th amendment. The best example of this clause would be in the Brown v. Board of Education where the Supreme Court ruling found it unconsitutional for the segregation to be institutionalized and sought to comletely eridicate it through provisions stated in the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Civil Liberties & Bill of Rights
3 Crump Isaiah 's insight:

Civil liberties are rights entitled to an individual that the government can't remove. Civil liberties are guranteed through law, the Constitution, or judicial procedure. The states had produced their own sate constitutions and wondered whether or not the federal government would honor their liberties. In response the Bill of Rights was ratified in 1791. The Bill of Rights was a result of a stern request submitted from the states to add liberties that all people should be guaranteed.

I had to stop playing that game because it got to a point where things where very stressful and hard to overlook. All of the issues presented to me seemed so appealing in light but never really seemed to translate into a good bill. On top of that I had to deal with matters of diplomacy in foreign countries. The president has most definitely has work cut for him.

United States Department of Defense (defense.gov) | 3 Crump Isaiah | Scoop.it
3 Crump Isaiah 's insight:

The current secretary of the department of defense is Chuck Hagel. The department of defense deals with all issues having to do with protection and safety whether the matters be foreign or domestic. For instance, I had seen some tabs on the website that carried anti-ISIL provisions and efforts to stop the spread of the ISIL terrorist faction from spreading. Then I  had also witnessed an article explaining the awareness and prevention of sexual assault. These were only a mere few examples.

Video: State of the Union 2015 in 90 seconds | 3 Crump Isaiah | Scoop.it
POLITICO recaps the highlights of President Barack Obama's 2015 State of the Union address in 90 seconds.
3 Crump Isaiah 's insight:

According to the video, president Obama's state of the union address was more of like recap of what he has done to help America and what needs to continue on terms of reform. Punctuated with a few Ms. America moments, this particular address came off more as the president displaying his confidence. I believe that the confident tactics that Obama employs in this particular address serves to accomplish political motives under two circumstances. Because this is nearing the president's last term, he will no longer try to be partisan with Congress. Also he attempts to make an appeal to the American people by showing the work that his administration has done for the better of America. I believe that these appeals are made so that it would be a great reflection on  his political party.

3 Crump Isaiah 's insight:

I learned that the president is made up of the entire executive branch and that approximately 4 million people work for the president. The presidents real powers stem from the informal powers. According to the video the president is most powerful when he can mobilize public opinion and bargain with congress. This concept is named institutionalized power which means that the president is powerful regardless from personality and derives from the office itself.

CNN: 'Gerrymandering' the movie - YouTube

A new documentary looks at the firestorm issue of redistricting as midterm elections near.
3 Crump Isaiah 's insight:

Gerrymandering is depicted as absolutely ludicrous. According to this clip from CNN, gerrymandering essentially allows for politicians to hand pick constituents and determine the outcome of elections. It was once a form of horse-trading within Congress. However, the growth of recent technology has allowed for these politicians to create a science of it and actually redistrict these maps to re-elect themselves.
