Creative Writing App Smash - Learn Moore

Creative Writing App Smash - Learn Moore | 21st century learning | Scoop.it
Earlier this month I decided to participate in the Thinglink App Smash Challenge, facilitated by Susan Oxnevad. The goal is to use ThingLink as a presentation tool to demonstrate how to combine the functionality of two or more apps to create, publish and share content. It was more difficult than I thought because I had a hard time narrowing down which apps I wanted to use in my submission. I finally decided on Book Creator because of its cross-curricular nature, and its ability to include various types of media. Here is the flow of the lesson:

Students choose a scene maker app to create an original visual writing prompt
Students upload their image to Book Creator
Add original composition using the text feature
Add narration by recording
Publish final project as e Book or movie

Top apps that promote Higher Order Thinking

Top apps that promote Higher Order Thinking | 21st century learning | Scoop.it

The concept Higher Order Thinking (HOT) is fast gaining importance in modern education as it can bring in a reform in education based on learning taxonomies.

Besides, such kind of a skill underpins a kind of thinking ability in students that helps them in making maximum use of their cognitive skills. So basically students learn to analyze things beyond what they have learned. They think and proceed towards a higher level than just merely memorizing facts and applying it in return without much thinking.

Like any other skills, the Higher Order Thinking Skills too can be learned with practice. So here we have compiled a list of Apps to be used in order to develop Higher Order Thinking Skills through practice. Take a look at these Apps and understand how they could help a student in shaping their skills to promote Higher Order Thinking.

Blended and Hybrid Environments are Driving the New Global Movement in Education | #ModernEDU | 21st century learning | Scoop.it

Today’s global employers are searching for employees that have specific skills. Those skills may not be the same needed in 10 years though. In 2009, the US Department of Labor estimated 65% of today’s school children would eventually be employed in jobs that have yet to be created. The number is far higher today. The influx of technology is what has changed the shape of education forever. For this reason, schools must create opportunities for students to engage in higher level thinking skills and experience 21st century skills while using technology.

What Is Differentiated Instruction? | #ModernEDU

What Is Differentiated Instruction? | #ModernEDU | 21st century learning | Scoop.it

At its most basic level, differentiation consists of the efforts of teachers to respond to variance among learners in the classroom. Whenever a teacher reaches out to an individual or small group to vary his or her teaching in order to create the best learning experience possible, that teacher is differentiating instruction.

Teachers can differentiate at least four classroom elements based on student readiness, interest, or learning profile:
Content – what the student needs to learn or how the student will get access to the information;
Process – activities in which the student engages in order to make sense of or master the content;
Products – culminating projects that ask the student to rehearse, apply, and extend what he or she has learned in a unit; and
Learning environment – the way the classroom works and feels.

Teaching 21st Century Skills For 21st Century Success Requires An Ecosystem Approach | #eSkills #ICT

Teaching 21st Century Skills For 21st Century Success Requires An Ecosystem Approach | #eSkills #ICT | 21st century learning | Scoop.it
It is almost universally acknowledged that in order to succeed in the 21st century, students must learn much more than the “three Rs” and basic computer competency.

The term “21st century skills” is used often in educational circles to refer to a range of abilities and competencies that go beyond what has traditionally been taught in the classroom, including problem solving, communication, collaboration, creativity and innovation. Others define the term as “information literacy, media literacy, and information, communication and technology literacy.”

More importantly, students need these skills because employers across a huge variety of industries increasingly demand them. A recent McKinsey report indicated that close to 40 percent of employers could not find people with the right skills while 60 percent “complain[ed] of a lack of preparation.” Even jobs that were once considered vocational, such as welding, petroleum production, and even factory work, are now high tech, and require specialized knowledge that includes not only a robust science background and familiarity with the computerized machinery that keeps heavy industry humming, but also critical thinking and collaboration skills. In other words, 21st century job growth is outpacing our ability to develop a prepared workforce, making it more critical than ever to teach these skills.

People tend to have clean and perfect surroundings and it is a must that everyone stays in an outstanding location that is clean. Scrubbing and cleaning the constructed buildings and the cleaning after the revocation work is to be handled carefully as this is one tedious task if handled in a wrong way. In this busy schedule many of us try to complete the task as per the time and missing the deadlines causes a great loss in several aspects. Hiring the professional experts is the only way to get the task completed as per the schedule. But it is a must to locate the professional expert who can assign a good team of professionals who are certified to clean the places. There are several experts who offer residential cleaning California along with many other friendly services that clean the complete area.

• Rely over the online research and then get the perfect solution for all your cleaning needs as the internet offers perfect solution which meets all your requirements. With the support of the team who work to meet all the expectations every cleaning task is completed according to the schedule and one can earn clean and shinning areas.

• The best part with the online research is that one can get a chance to request the vendors irrespective of the time and the team completes the work as per the deadline. The post renovation cleaning or the commercial cleaning involves cleaning each and every part of the building, but there is always a slight difference in the process of cleaning.

• The cleaning services are not just moping and dusting, but there is a lot to do under cleaning. There are several cleaning requirements which are only fulfilled under the guidance of an expert and the reliable sources support in offering a complete cleaning.

• They make sure that each and every particular of the building gets cleaned and the cleaning team typically fulfills all the requirements. But while picking a contractor look for the license and certification as it is a must to seek the support of a trustworthy vendor.

Earn amazing surroundings just by seeking the support of the cleaning team, which always offers the best services for all unexpected cleaning needs. So do a thorough research and then hire the professional expert who offers the janitorial services in Santa Clara as these are to be completed in a systematic manner.

How to turn audio clips into realistic lip-synced video

How to turn audio clips into realistic lip-synced video | 21st century learning | Scoop.it

University of Washington researchers at the UW Graphics and Image Laboratory have developed new algorithms thatturn audio clips into a realistic, lip-synced video, starting with an existing video of  that person speaking on a different topic.

As detailed in a paper to be presented Aug. 2 at  SIGGRAPH 2017, the team successfully generated a highly realistic video of former president Barack Obama talking about terrorism, fatherhood, job creation and other topics, using audio clips of those speeches and existing weekly video addresses in which he originally spoke on a different topic decades ago.

Realistic audio-to-video conversion has practical applications like improving video conferencing for meetings (streaming audio over the internet takes up far less bandwidth than video, reducing video glitches), or holding a conversation with a historical figure in virtual reality, said Ira Kemelmacher-Shlizerman, an assistant professor at the UW’s Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering.

Exploring Curation as a core competency in digital and media literacy education  | #ModernEDU #LEARNing2LEARN | 21st century learning | Scoop.it

Article: Exploring Curation as a core competency in digital and media literacy education.

In today’s hypermedia landscape, youth and young adults are increasingly using social media platforms, online aggregators and mobile applications for daily information use. Communication educators, armed with a host of free, easy-to-use online tools, have the ability to create dynamic approaches to teaching and learning about information and communication flow online.

In this paper we explore the concept of curation as a student- and creation-driven pedagogical tool to enhance digital and media literacy education. We present a theoretical justification for curation and present six key ways that curation can be used to teach about critical thinking, analysis and expression online.

We utilize a case study of the digital curation platform Storify to explore how curation works in the classroom, and present a framework that integrates curation pedagogy into core media literacy education learning outcomes.

This week I had the chance to lead a virtual reality lesson with a group of second graders. It was absolutely amazing to see the students spinning around and looking side-to-side as they explored the top of a mountain and the bottom of the ocean. On this 360 Thursday I wanted to share some of my absolute favorite resources for virtual reality in education. Whether you’re totally new to this concept or looking for new educational VR apps to add to your toolkit, there are lots to choose from! Don’t worry, I’ll tell the whole story of my second grade virtual reality exploration in a June post (sign up here to get it in your inbox). And if you want an e-Book for summer reading you can grab my free getting started guide for virtual reality in education by clicking here.
The list below includes virtual reality apps for mobile devices and websites that give you quick access to virtual reality videos for your classroom. Of course, having a headset like the low-cost Google Cardboard is great but most of these virtual reality in the classroom resources work on web-browsers too. If you have a favorite you think I should add to the list, make sure to leave a comment at the bottom of this post!

The 21st Century skills discussion and debate has waged on even prior to the onset of this century.  The ensuing conversations have provided an opportunity for schools, districts, and organizations to critically evaluate what students need to know and be able to do in order to succeed in the new world of work.  As we have moved further into this century the number 21 has less of a meaning, but the skills are still important.  Thus, many educators, including myself, now refer to these as essential skills.  Over time they have evolved beyond just communication, collaboration, creativity, and global awareness to include entrepreneurship and emerging technological proficiency.
