Kathy Schrock: 6 Apps That Target Higher-Order Thinking Skills -- THE Journal

Kathy Schrock: 6 Apps That Target Higher-Order Thinking Skills -- THE Journal | 21st Century Learning | Scoop.it
A higher-order thinker is a critical thinker. What are the attributes of a critical thinker? In The Miniature Guide to Critical Thinking Concepts and Tools, Richard Paul and Linda Elder describe a well-cultivated critical thinker as someone who:
raises vital questions and problems, formulating them clearly and precisely;gathers and assesses relevant information, using abstract ideas to interpret it effectively; comes to well-reasoned conclusions and solutions, testing them against relevant criteria and standards;thinks open-mindedly within alternative systems of thought, recognizing and assessing their assumptions, implications and practical consequences as need be; andcommunicates effectively with others in figuring out solutions to complex problems.

Adoption of drones and robotics will more than double in the next three years. Drones will outpace the larger and more mature robotics category, but both will grow by solid double digits year-over-year for the next three years.

According to the new report from IDC, combined worldwide spending on drones and robotics totaled $84.44 billion in 2017. That figure will jump to $103.1 billion in 2018. By 2021, spending will reach $218.4 billion — a three-year compound annual growth rate of 25.4 percent.

(Empathic Design) Design Thinking – Where Empathy and Innovation Meet

(Empathic Design) Design Thinking – Where Empathy and Innovation Meet  | 21st Century Learning | Scoop.it

The old saying that you should ‘walk a mile in someone else’s shoes’ to understand what they are going through is really the essence of what design thinking is all about. If the goal is to design a technology solution to a customer problem, it makes a great deal of sense to go the extra mile to understand that problem from their perspective. A design thinking approach puts empathy for the end user foremost in problem solving.

“Empathy for the customer’s problems is at the center of a good design. If the solution is empathetic, people are more likely to want to engage with the design. They will then be more willing to fall in line with the solution that emerges,” said Pierre Enriquez, Scrum Master at TDK Technologies.
