Like Any Other High School, but Without Bullies — The Good Men Project

Like Any Other High School, but Without Bullies — The Good Men Project | 21st_Century Good: Social and Content | Scoop.it

Mark McCormack spent six months researching teen boys in the U.K. What he found was a culture of acceptance that defied cultural expectations.

Consider the scene: Tom, a small, shy, openly gay high school student, sat at the back of the school bus on his own. He saw three of the most popular, athletic boys get on the bus, fresh from soccer practice. As they made their way down the aisle, they saw Tom alone and moved toward him.
What happened next?
Not what you’d expect. The boys, in fact, sat down to talk with Tom. “I didn’t really know him well,” one later told me. “I knew he was the gay kid at school, that’s all. … He was all on his own. I mean, I couldn’t just let him sit there alone. Nobody should have to sit alone.”

The Grasshopper Life — The Good Men Project

The story of a man’s life may be better left to the women who loved him, than to his sons who feared him. The lovers chose him, after all. They saw something and felt some thing more that led to his table and his arms. A son sees the flaws and the foibles that he will spend his life fighting; a lover will see the gleam that redeems and forgives them.

In the end, we get by on the grace of women.

Sexual Fantasies I Have About Various Republicans

Sexual Fantasies I Have About Various Republicans | 21st_Century Good: Social and Content | Scoop.it
If Mittens believed in divorce, and got rid of that horrid woman he calls a wife, then he might actually have a shot at winning this election. Which I definitely don't want him to do, so I guess that makes me a fan of Anne Romney.

5 Tips for the Suddenly Single Dad — The Good Men Project Magazine | 21st_Century Good: Social and Content | Scoop.it

Many of us (our hands are raised …) can relate to the confusion, panic, and despair that’s inevitable when a spouse or partner announces that the marriage is over — especially when the news is totally unexpected.
A distraught husband and father recently wrote to us after hearing just that kind of news:
“My wife announced two days ago —out of nowhere —that she’d met her soul mate. And now she is filing for divorce. She packed her things the next morning when our 9-year-old boy and 13-year-old daughter were at school,” he added...

Divorced Dad: Lost and Found — The Good Men Project Magazine

Divorced Dad: Lost and Found — The Good Men Project Magazine | 21st_Century Good: Social and Content | Scoop.it

We had both become accustomed to goodbyes. As father and son, we had long ago reached a male understanding that a certain amount of emotion was a good thing. Too much was bad—very bad, in fact. The ease of being together could easily turn ugly if the pain of our situation was spoken out loud. We didn’t live together and never would. This was as good as it was going to get. We both knew this, but never wanted to say it out loud—as if the silence would somehow diminish the hurt.
