At Easton hearing, Pennsylvania official hears calls for tougher charter school scrutiny

This is the second of five hearings Eugene DePasquale is hosting across the state.
Jon D. Marsh's insight:

I thought about this yesterday when the superintendent from Bethlehem said it at the hearing and I have the same question when I read it today.  How can charter schools cost the school district 15 million, but if all the student come back to the district they would save 10 million?  With that $10 million they are going to fund full-day kindergarten and pay for tutoring.  Bethlehem only sends charter schools 75% of what they spend, so how is there now an extra $10 million to pay for additional services?

Jon D. Marsh's insight:

Pittsburgh cyberschool making tweaks amid turnover

District set to expand grade offerings
Jon D. Marsh's insight:

It is good to see that they are admitting that it is harder then they thought it was going to be.  I wish I didn't think that other districts will say that "Oh that's Pittsburgh, we are __ SD and we will do a better job of it."  Folks it's hard work and it takes a lot of innovation to make this work for kids.  Once again notice that there is not a lot in there about children learning, it is mostly about money.
