      In the 1800's women would petition, picket, and protest so they could have their right to vote. The amendment got to congress in 1878, and took until 1920 to be ratified. Militant suffragist would parade & go on hunger strikes. Opponents would physically abuse them, and put them in jail. In 1919 the amendment was passed by the House of Rep. the Senate also passed it 2 weeks after.

In this it is a news article from when the 19th amendment ratifiction was going on. It states that the sufferage supporters had two-thirds of senators to present. The voting was 56 - 25. It went to states for ratification after being passed by the house voting of 304- 89.
