ryan brown's insight:

This article shows another persons opinion which is close to the others, about the middle class and jobs. For example, "that the responsiveness of senators to the views of the poor and working class is....zero. Or maybe even negative. And that's true for both parties. The middle class does better — again, with both parties — and high earners do better still."

CNN: Repeal 17th Amendment?

CNN's National Political Correspondent Jessica Yellin talks to Utah Tea Party Senate candidate Mike Lee.
ryan brown's insight:

This video shows reasoning why the 17th amendment should be repealed. The power of the federal government was always checked by the power of the states and anything that can help restore the power to the states will protect us from federal power, such as the American debt.

17th Amendment | Nolo.com | 17th amendment ryan brown | Scoop.it
The 17th Amendment modified Article I, Section 3, of the U.S. Constitution, by providing for the direct election of U.S.
ryan brown's insight:

The 17th amendment is what gives you your right to vote for your own senator, not the state legislators. "This amendment shall not be so construed as to affect the election or term of any Senator chosen before it becomes valid as part of the Constitution." I thought this was a big idea so that the 17th amendment is created not for negitive use toward a advantage for the senators. It is used for your rights

Colbert Report: 17th Amendment Under Attack

GOP Senate candidates want to repeal the 17th Amendment or omit voting from senatorial elections.
ryan brown's insight:

This video shows how the 17th amendment is under attack and his opinion on it, Which i completely agree with. I think repealing the 17th amendment is stupid, and that everyone should have a vote or say in what they want and letting the state legislators to choose a senator for me

Todd Zywicki writes on NRO: Joe Miller, Alaska’s Republican nominee for the United States Senate, recently expressed support for an idea that is rapidly gaining steam in Tea Party circles: the repeal of the Seventeenth Amendment.
ryan brown's insight:

In this article Joe Miller, Alaska's republican nominee for the US Senate, claims that repealing the Seventeenth Amendment would go a long way toward restoring federalism. "There is no indication that the supporters of the Seventeenth Amendment understood that they were destroying federalism."

Pete Hoekstra Wants To Repeal The 17th Amendment

Pete Hoekstra Wants To Repeal The 17th Amendment | 17th amendment ryan brown | Scoop.it
If Pete Hoekstra had his way, he wouldn't have to campaign for a seat in the Senate right now. Instead, he would simply be chosen by the state legislature to represent Michigan.
ryan brown's insight:

This article connects to the other article i had added. Pete Hoekstra believes that the 17th amendment should be repealed, as he had said in the past "I think that would be a positive thing," Hoekstra said during a January debate. i disagree with him, because this does absolutely nothing to create jobs or strengthen the middle class.

GOP Senate Candidates Advocate 17th Amendment Repeal : Roll Call News

GOP Senate Candidates Advocate 17th Amendment Repeal : Roll Call News | 17th amendment ryan brown | Scoop.it
How would the Senate look without Senators elected by voters? Before the ratification of the 17th Amendment in 1913, that s exactly how it worked, with increasingly corrupt state legislatures picking Senators.
ryan brown's insight:

This article says that there is no chance of the 17th amendment being repealed. This article states "We should be focused on jobs and the economy, not taking away people's right to vote for their U.S. Senators like Hoekstra proposes. It's hypocritical that Hoekstra is running for Senate but would then take away the public's right to vote for this office if elected," Brewer said. which proves that this amendment will not be repealed because we have bigger jobs on our minds.
