Stepping Up the Backchannel In the Classroom

Stepping Up the Backchannel In the Classroom | 1:1 implementation | Scoop.it

"Students need our guidance to use virtual platforms for ACADEMIC purposes. We can’t rely on their “so called” native status to know how and what to do. Just a few years ago, no one had heard of “backchanneling”, nowadays, it has become main stream (although most people might not associate the term “backchannel” and “backchanneling” with something they might be familiar with."

Cool Tools for 21st Century Learners: I Teach Above The Line

Cool Tools for 21st Century Learners: I Teach Above The Line | 1:1 implementation | Scoop.it

"At an Apple ShowCase Event in Chicago yesterday I had the pleasure of listening to the advice of many talented educators who have successfully launched and implemented 1-1 Mac learning environments. As I listened to their stories I found myself writing down many quotes for use as I begin this journey. Upon reflection, I realize that I can do the most with the quote from Shannon Soger, 1-1 coordinator and instructional coach from D100, Chicagoland.

"I teach above the line.""

"Working at Pilgrims Teacher Training, we have developed our framework for ICT courses with Kristina Smith. Last year, I started teaching with an iPad, so I adapted the framework for teaching with iPad apps.

The framework consists of five categories:

1- Searching: Searching for information (It is also necessary to introduce search engines for apps, such as quixey and appcrawlr)

2-Bookmarking: Bookmarking websites to save them online, and to be able to find them later

3- Organizing: Organizing materials online

4- Creating: Creating multimedia materials

5- Sharing: Finally, sharing the materials on social networking sites"

Reaching Different Learning Styles With The iPad | 1:1 implementation | Scoop.it

"How do you learn best?  For me, it depends on what I am learning.  Sometimes I need to take notes, other times I need to think out loud.  Some things are easier to learn with another person while with other things, I need to be alone.  My guess is most of us have different styles for learning depending on what it is we are working on."
