Open education, in the forms of open resources, courses, and learning and teaching practices, has become a hot topic. While forms of open learning pre-date the digital, technology-enabled approaches to openness are now de rigeur. Digital content, and communication and collaboration technologies have made possible open educational resources (OER), open courseware (OCW), MOOCs, and open access (OA) to research and data. Within this topic I aim to reflect the wide-ranging nature of this evolving area of work, where the common thread is 'openness', but where things may be open or opened in different ways.
