Leadership is both a result and a process; it's an outcome that is only achieved by the investment we make in it. And that investment takes many forms: learning, practice, feedback, self development, and support. Reactions on this post

Scott Goodson is the founder of StrawberryFrog. His first book, Uprising exploring Movement Marketing has been published by McGraw Hill. **** Agree with this article immensely. As noise level goes up, and it is deafening and about to get worse, consumers seek short cuts, short hand and quick messaging to understand how to reduce the time it takes to parse information. Brands are the ultimate parsing tool, the ultimate shorthand. Brands communicate complex messages in "short code" making them more important now than ever. We see a brand and understand a hundred things. The web seems to be a direct marketers dream with numbers associated with every action. Don't be fooled, there are still things worth doing that can't and won't appear on any P&L. Brand building campaigns are out of favor because of the web's ability to seemingly allocate money to all activities. Until Google Analytics is connected to my brain brand building will not be seen on a bottom line, but, as this excellent Forbes article points out, brands and branding have never been more important. Some things that cost money marketers must do out of love and trust. Good luck selling that idea to th C level (lol). Reactions on this post

Reactions on this post

People ask me all the time why I’m so excited about Google+ as a marketing tool. After all, it doesn’t (yet) have anywhere near the user numbers of social media juggernauts like Facebook or Twitter. Doesn’t it just make sense to go where the numbers are? When I hear that I stop and wonder if it’s really 2012. Broadcasting to the big numbers was the way to go for the Mad Men of the 60s, but savvy marketers like Seth Godin realize that these days it’s all about the tribes we lead. In other words, if you can connect with a smaller group of people who are passionate about what you’re selling, you don’t need to fire a shotgun at big crowds.
This brings me back to why I’m such a Google+ evangelist. I haven’t seen anything anywhere any time so readily available to anyone and everyone that can help you find and connect to your tribe as powerfully as can G+.
***** Agree, agree and agree and see the needless flogging of G+ as goofystupid. As an Internet marketer I must see what is there not what is NOT. The only sin in Internet marketing is doing nothing since all other sins can be modified based on feedback loops. Any fool who hasn't already hedged with a G+ presence must do so now. Our company is doubling down on G+ because the tools make marketing sense (hangouts in particular) and becasue, well to be honest, it is GOOGLE :).
