The term ‘massive open online course’, or MOOC (coined by Dave Cormier and Bryan Alexander) describes courses that take place online; are open in the sense that participation is typically free of charge and learning materials can be modified, reused and distributed to others; and reach massive communities – of tens of thousands – of learners. The biggest question that many bloggers or small business owners ask is whether or not it is a viable source of income. Simply put, the answer to that question is yes. After all, Adsense derives from Google’s Adwords program for advertisers and it is their largest source of income. In essence, Google shares their revenue to publishers (off site network), when someone clicks on an ad that is served on your blog, website, etc. Done properly, you can make a decent amount of income with Google’s Advertising program for publishers, but don’t think it will be an easy ride.

Robin Good: In an ocean of possibly relevant information, what interests us most beyond the infinite stories and gossip inside our social graph, is what is relevant and close to our own specific interests. Excerpted from Bari's blog at Netsquared: "It seems we may finally be ready to acknowledge that we are already too bloated to gorge on what the Internet can and will feed us non-stop if we let it. Like my two-year old son, I am forced to accept that I will have to get some structure and discipline in my life (online). And like my son, I may at first resist that structure, in my case due to some vague but deep-seated notions of freedom, liberty, democracy and whatnot. But at the end of the day, I know it’s good for me. Might I actually like the structured rabbit hole with some guiding lights on its walls? It does give me some sense of control and direction about where I am going." Right-on-the-mark. 7/10 Full article: http://www.netsquared.org/blog/bari/look-down-rabbit-hole-interest-based-dis Reactions on this post

Thirty minutes or less was not the mantra of two major pizza chains in Paraguay recently when they deliberately delayed deliveries to hungry customers.
Thirty minutes or less was not the mantra of two major pizza chains in Paraguay recently when they deliberately delayed deliveries to hungry customers.
Frustration, anger and grumbling stomachs were just a few of the symptoms of this recent cause marketing campaign. According to trend spotter Springwise.com, the companies partnered with the Food Bank Foundation and intentionally made customers wait to give them a little taste of what it's like to be hungry. When the pizzas finally arrived, each came with a note stating, "When you're hungry, you understand hunger." For their trouble, customers got their pizzas free of charge, and they could also donate to the Food Bank Foundation to help fight serious cases of hunger. The campaign has already raised enough money to collect 50 tons of food and provided customers a reality check on what it feels like to be hungry....

I spend the majority of my day with creators, authors and publishers. The ability of storytellers to see a world that could exist and share it with words and pictures is amazing.
When I am not chatting with storytellers, I am talking about how to distribute their stories digitally.
Easy right? Just put it on iBooks or Kindle or NOOK. Done.
Turns out its not that easy, but thats a story for another day (or just go check out Graphicly, its what we do thousands of times a day).
What is fascinating is that creators are beginning to take into account the delivery mechanism of their stories.
That's right. Tablets are fundamentally changing storytelling. Reactions on this post

The California farming community is facing a demographic crisis. The average age of a California farmer is 58, and nearly 20 percent of them are 70 or older. As these farmers approach retirement, California needs to train new ones if we are to continue to feed our country and keep a healthy rural economy in the decades ahead. And with farm internships in California subject to strict labor laws, opportunities to get a hands-on farming education have become even fewer. Reactions on this post
