This Is Your Brain On Junk Food

This Is Your Brain On Junk Food | zestful living | Scoop.it
Food companies are spending millions of dollars to design foods with addictive sensations. What can you and I do about it? Is there any way to counteract the money, the science, and the advertising behind the junk food industry?

Via The BioSync Team
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Read how the food companies trick you into craving junk food by making certain foods more addictive and tasty than others.

Steven Witherly, a food scientist has spent the last 20 years studying the why of addictive junk food. Read the entire article to get links to his excellent report, "Why Humans Like Junk Food".

Witherly says there are 2 factors that make eating pleasurable: one is the sensation of eating the food. This includes tastes, smell, and mouthfeel - which is very important. Food companies spend millions of dollars to discover the satisfying level of crunch in a potato chip or the perfect amount of fizzle in a soda. These factors all combine to create the food your brain craves.

The second factor is the actual macronutrient makeup of the food - blend of proteins, carbs, and fats it contains. And in the case of junk food, the manufacturers are looking for the perfect combination of salt, sugar, and fat that excites your brain, and gets you coming back for more.

So what can you do about this craving because as you probably know by now, junk food is unhealthy and causes a myriad of chronic diseases, weight gain, obesity, and even death in certain individuals.

As you begin eating less and less processed foods, you begin to go through a transition period known as "gene reprogramming".

Best strategy is to avoid buying these products. If you can't do that then try to reduce the amount you buy/eat by using his strategies.

"Outer ring" and "5 ingredient rule".

Shop on the outer ring of the grocery store where the produce section is located and the eggs, meats, fish etc. Remember you're really wanting real whole food, food that you're body recognizes, and food that serves your body.

.If the product has more than 5 ingredients, then put it back on the shelf. It most likely is trying to trick you into buying.

Eat a variety of foods and eat Rainbow Foods. These are the foods that contain the antioxidants, the phytonutrients, the minerals, and vitamins that your body craves.

Instead of eating a chip with a dip of unknown ingredients. try eating carrots, celery, red, orange peppers with hummus or nut butters. You'll still get the crunch and your body will thank you by keeping you healthy. Just remember to chew slowly and you'll get a great mouthfeel. Plus your digestive system will be happy.

And there are better alternatives to handling stress than eating junk foods which really do not comfort you in the long run. Listen to music you like, get up and dance with your special ones, breathe deeply and let out a pleasurable sound, try yoga, meditation, take a nature walk, sing in the shower, laugh for no reason - a great stress reducer, help someone else and you'll forget your problems.

3 Vegan Athletes Debunking The Protein Myth | Care2 Healthy Living

3 Vegan Athletes Debunking The Protein Myth | Care2 Healthy Living | zestful living | Scoop.it
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that plant based/vegan athletes are showing the world that you don’t need animal based protein to compete as a professional athlete at any age or as a non pro athlete who enjoys going to the gym, exercising, running with friends or any number of fitness activities? All protein originally comes from plants.

Your body can thrive on plant based real whole food protein just fine as witnessed by more and more professional athletes who have woken up to the benefits of plants for high performance. Some athletes are considered raw based, consuming at least 80 percent raw and 20 percent cooked food.

Health Tips:
Raw sprouts are the bang for your buck when it comes to protein. Eat a variety of sprouted lentils, pea shoots, mung beans, and sunflower sprouts. Juice with wheatgrass or other greens and protein-rich sunflower/pea sprouts.

Eat lots of good complex veggie carbs as in root veggies (sweet potatoes, carrots, beets), purple potatoes, and squashes. These can be cooked at a low temp or steamed. The darker the color the more antioxidants/anti-inflammatory.

Sprouted grains like quinoa, buckwheat and others can be cooked. Use a variety of high antioxidant spices to flavor your foods, including ginger, turmeric, clove, cinnamon, garlic, cayenne, and others.

Be sure to take vitamin D3 and B12 and maybe some other plant based supplements for your body. Eat healthy plant based omega 3s, sprouted flax, chia. Always grind flax before consuming.

Hemp seeds, walnuts, other nuts, avocados, and certain algae round out the healthy fats. Remember to eat all your plant fats raw.

This Type Of Exercise Can Actually Slow Aging | Care2 Healthy Living

This Type Of Exercise Can Actually Slow Aging | Care2 Healthy Living | zestful living | Scoop.it
We all want to be fitter, right? Whether you are trying to lose weight or just feel stronger and more confident, fitness is part of being a modern human. But
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that in addition to eating healthy plant based real whole food, reducing your stress levels, getting 7-9 hours sleep a night, and doing certain exercises helps you to age in a better way?

Resistance training, aerobic exercise, weight lifting, and stretching daily are recommended because they work to protect you from premature aging and disease.

Your lifestyle habits, the food you eat or don’t, your moods, and environmental pollutants all impact your stress levels. Caffeine and sweets boost cortisol producing harmful stress which leads to over consumption and weight gain.

Unhealthy saturated fat consumption adds pounds by increasing white fats. White fat contains body fat. Brown fat burns fat. Exercise and sleep can convert white fat into brown fat. This information comes from Anna Marie Clement, PhD, LN, Co-director Hippocrates Health Institute.

Health tips:
Your brain is mostly (about 60 percent) composed of fat and requires healthy plant based fat to maintain focus and mental health. Neurotransmitters in your brain transmit information from nerve cells to nerve cells. Your brain needs the B vitamins, especially B12.

These other vitamins A, C, D, and E plus fiber and all the minerals also support the brain plus all organs and glands. Omega 3 fats are abundant in leafy greens, flax, chia, hemp seeds, some types of algae, and walnuts. Omega 3 fats reduce inflammation.

The Healthiest Foods to Eat When You Take Meat Off Your Plate

The Healthiest Foods to Eat When You Take Meat Off Your Plate | zestful living | Scoop.it
Instead of masking the problem and bandaging the symptoms of poor health, we've got to start treating the problem directly. That starts with our ability and privilege to choose what we eat every single day. We do have a choice and it's much easier than we realize.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that by reducing and/or eliminating your consumption of all animal based food you are helping your body to greatly lower your risk of chronic diseases, digestion issues, high cholesterol, and inflammation? Animal based food is very high in harmful saturated fat.

What your body needs is real whole plant based food which is anti-inflammatory. Your gut bacteria thrive on fiber which you only get from plant food.

Health tips:
Every protein is from plant based. Cows eat it too.

Plant based protein consisting of sprouted foods, greens, crucifers, land and sea veggies, legumes (beans, peas, lentils), nuts, seeds, whole ancient grains, and algae supplies your body with all the protein your body requires to function optimally.

A big salad with these foods makes a delicious nutritious protein filled meal.

Some foods like mushrooms combined with other plant based foods provide you with a meat like consistency for those of you are transitioning to all or most plant based food. There’s also fermented tempeh, natto, and tofu or other soy foods.

Sprouted foods, plant based legumes, and nuts/seeds are very satiating foods to eat. Most plant food can be sprouted.

What are natural flavors, really? - CNN

What are natural flavors, really? - CNN | zestful living | Scoop.it
"Natural flavors" and "artificial flavors" aren't always as different as you might think. We explain the difference and what means for your health.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that the word “natural” when used on food labels means the opposite of Mother Nature made? Food manufacturers go to extreme lengths to deceive you the buyer into purchasing their products which have been created in a lab and didn’t originally come from nature. You have to do your own due diligence.

Lab created food comes from chemicals, artificial and synthetic ingredients, and today some new brands use what is known as gene-editing, which is GMO 2.0.. These unnatural ingredients/methods can cause health problems for you.

Your body only recognizes real whole plant based food which is what your evolutionary ancestors ate for the most part. Processed food, fast food, and all manner of sugars didn’t exist back in those times. Your body hasn’t changed since that time.

Your gut bacteria feed on real whole plant based food only. All the other foods that are without nutrients and fiber decimate your gut.

Antibiotics, prescription meds, drugs, Statins, and acid blockers also decimate your gut. Take antibiotics only when you need to for a serious life threatening infection.

Health Tips:
Read labels and if you can’t read an ingredient, then don’t purchase the product. If there’s more than 5 ingredients, find another product.

Buy few if any processed foods. Find a healthy inexpensive restaurant in place of fast food stores or make your own fast food with Mother nature’s plant based real whole food. Buy organic/local as much as possible.

You want to avoid pesticides and other chemicals in your food. Read Environmental Working Group’s (EWG.org) website to find out which produce is the Clean one and which produce is the Dirty one.

Make sure if you’re buying pineapple that it is organic only. Pineapple is one of the worst foods for pesticides.

Use herbs and spices to flavor your food. Buy organic only. With herbs/spices you only need a pinch or two. Herbs are composed of many different compounds which interact synergistically to help alleviate pain, discomfort, inflammation in your body.

Healing Autoimmune Disease With Supermarket Foods

Healing Autoimmune Disease With Supermarket Foods | zestful living | Scoop.it
This article addresses three foods that are making you sick from Dr. Goldner’s 6 Steps to Reversing Autoimmune Disease with Supermarket Foods.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know you can heal your body from autoimmune and inflammatory causes by consuming a plant based lifestyle? What you consume, digest, absorb, and assimilate affect every aspect of who you are.

Your behavior, mood, attitude, your memory, your digestion, your gut bacteria/immune system, your heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, lymphatic system, and all the other key glands, systems, tissues, cells, blood in your body are all affected in some way by what type of food/beverage you ingest and whether you exercise or not.

Your body operates like a team, it’s a unit, not disparate parts doing their own thing. Even though some doctors and big Pharma would have you believe that idea.

Your genes only account for about 30 percent of who you are. The rest is in your control. Give your gut bacteria the food they thrive on and so will you.

Prescription meds only mask symptoms. They don’t treat the cause of your illness. What they do however, is create more sickness so you have to take more meds. Big Pharma has a solid business model going and you’re the guinea pig.

Health Tips:
Nourish your body, mind, and spirit by giving it plant based real whole food. This is the food your gut bacteria thrive on.

Forgo the processed pesticide, GMO, chemical ridden, sugar laden nutrient poor food, cut out all animal based inflammatory foods, and drop or greatly reduce the oils. Inflammatory foods lead to disease states.

You want to be consuming more healthy omega 3 fatty acids and less omega 6, especially vegetable oils. The jury is still out regarding olive and coconut oil. If you want to use, use sparingly.

Organic Flaxseed oil, pumpkin seed oil, hempseed oil, cranberry seed oil are acceptable in very small quantities. However don’t cook with these oils. Use them for your salads, sauces, hummus, pates, and raw dishes.

You can stir-fry your foods in filtered water or tomato sauce. You don’t need to use any oil. The taste is still delicious. Most people go overboard with their consumption of olive and coconut oil.

If you’re baking or roasting, you don’t need to use any oils either. This fact applies to nuts and seeds as well. Heating any oil is not recommended as when its heated it becomes carcinogenic.

Using The Produce Aisle To Boost Immune Function | Care2 Healthy Living

Using The Produce Aisle To Boost Immune Function | Care2 Healthy Living | zestful living | Scoop.it
Vegetables were tested head-to-head to see which ones are best at boosting immune function.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that inflammation and leaky gut can occur with the absence of cruciferous veggies in your meals? Crucifers as in broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, bok choy, collards, and Brussels sprouts are potent cancer fighters and AHR ligands.

Low veggie and fruit consumption increases flu-related hospitalization by 8 percent according a study conducted in the U.S. From other studies done it appears consuming eight or nine (8-9) servings a day of fresh produce greatly lowers your risk of respiratory infection.

Health Tips:
Consuming two large salads a day filled with sprouts, dark leafy greens, crucifers, sea and land veggies, flavored with herbs/spices and perhaps nutritional yeast and some nuts/seeds is one of the best all round healthy meals you can eat to not only boost your immune system but also is a health prevention action. You can eat both raw and steamed veggies together in one salad.

Following a plant based real whole food lifestyle regimen and exercising/moving throughout your day helps you to be healthy and age in a better way so you can enjoy life to the fullest every day.

9 out of 10 That Die From it Never Knew They Even Had This Preventable Disease | NutritionFacts.org | zestful living | Scoop.it
Diverticula are out-pouchings of our intestine. Doctors like using a tire analogy: high pressures within the gut can force the intestines to balloon out th
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that the disease diverticulosis is a relatively new disease since 1907 that is preventable by consuming plant based real whole food? It’s the most common intestinal disorder and most people who die from it don’t even know that had it.

Diverticulosis is a deficiency disease, a deficiency of essential fiber. Plant food has fiber. Diets deficient in fiber have problems pushing stools through the intestines which causes bulges and sometimes the colon can rupture.

Fiber softens your stools. When you eat too much processed refined and animal based food and little to no fiber, diverticulosis occurs. In Paleolithic times your ancestors ate only plants.

Your body needs about 100 grams of fiber a day. Even vegetarians don’t get as much fiber as is needed. People consuming plant based food/vegan have about a 78 percent lower risk for getting diverticulosis. This information comes from another of Dr Greger’s videos on this topic.

Health Tips:

Dr Greger says that most mainstream docs tell their patients with diverticulosis to avoid nuts/seeds. Research shows that people suffering with diverticulosis who were consuming nuts/seeds and other plant based foods had much lower rates of inflammation.

If you have diverticulosis, let your doctor know about Dr Greger’s www.nutritionfacts.org site. Most doctors have very little studies in nutrition and have little time to read about new studies.

The best food you can consume is plant based real whole food for diverticulosis and other chronic diseases.

7 Mighty Benefits Of Writing By Hand | Care2 Healthy Living | zestful living | Scoop.it
While pen and paper may seem poised on the edge of obscurity, writing by hand offers a bevy of brain-boosting perks that should not be lost to technology.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that writing in cursive can help your brain and is important for all children to learn?

With the ever increasing use of email, letter writing has gradually gone out of style with many youngsters and young adults never even having learned penmanship in school.

Health Tips:

5 Ridiculous Myths About Cow’s Milk

5 Ridiculous Myths About Cow’s Milk | zestful living | Scoop.it
Milk is much more than just a drink, it is a cultural phenomenon that can be traced back thousands of years, but despite all the research proving milk to be detrimental to both our own lives and the lives of the cows, the milk myths still ring loud and clear.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that the dairy industry has hoodwinked you, the customer for decades into believing that cow’s milk is good for your health? Nothing could be further from the truth.

Cow’s milk carries hormone baggage, doesn’t protect your bones, causes fractures, and was never meant for human consumption.

The dairy industry would fold quickly if they let calves stay with their moms and drink the milk meant only for them to grow bigger.

The dairy industry makes its profits from animal suffering. Tearing away a newborn calf from its mother, milking the mother cows constantly, harming the baby calves for ‘veal’, and never allowing cows to eat grass or be outdoors, and giving them antibiotics which has created a another disastrous health problem for humans.

Still want to drink cow’s milk? Your choice.

Health Tips:
Your body gets all the calcium it requires from plant based real whole food. From avocados to nuts (almonds), seeds (sesame, hemp, chia), and greens (watercress, spinach, kale, collard, turnip greens, asparagus), sea veggies, fruit (figs, blackstrap molasses), raw cacao) and from foods rich in the mineral Boron.

Foods high in Boron: Chickpeas, beans, lentils, almonds, avocado, prunes, raisins, apples, pears, oranges, red grapes, broccoli, and whole grains.

With calcium, you also need to be taking foods rich in magnesium and also ionic liquid magnesium, vitamin D3, foods rich in boron, strontium, and silica for strong bones.

Keeping active and moving in every decade is critical as well for strong bones. Weight lifting and resistance training are essential as well.

Big Pharma Wants to Convince You that Food Has no Role in Obesity – Buy Their Drugs Instead

Big Pharma Wants to Convince You that Food Has no Role in Obesity – Buy Their Drugs Instead | zestful living | Scoop.it
Curing obesity has become a huge market in the U.S., so the pharmaceutical companies have decided they want to profit from it also. The AMA announced earlier
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that big Pharma aka the pharmaceutical industry is a profit driven business that cares only for its bottom line, not for you the consumer? Big Pharma is protected by the government so it can market false, misleading, deceptive misinformation. Similar to big Food/big AG.

The main problem is that mainstream medical doctors get paid for prescribing drugs which in most cases do not work on the underlying cause of the health problem or disease you have, but rather just mask the symptoms.

Plus these drugs have minor to severe side effects which many times cause you the patient to have to take more drugs for a different health issue that was caused by the initial drugs.

Many older/elderly people take up to 6 or more drugs everyday. This is not necessary and is harmful in the extreme. Most medical schools don’t teach about nutrition so the majority of doctors are left in the dark, believing the canned patter from Pharma reps about this or that new drug.

Yes some drugs are needed for severe health problems. However if your health issue is about your body and how it works as a unit, not in disparate parts, then you’re basically trusting someone who has very little knowledge of nutrition. What these physician do have is knowledge about drugs and medical devices.

It’s not just medical schools but also medical journals which will often publish articles from people who may not be a knowledgeable physician/researcher/educator/coach trained in nutrition.

Health Tips:
You need to do your due diligence when it comes to your health. Find a Naturopathic, Homeopathic, Chinese medicine doctor, even a Functional or Integrative medicine doctor or a Licensed Nutritionist who knows about the human body and about how what you eat affects your body, mind, and spirit.

Be careful with a Dietician because many of them have been schooled just the way mainstream medical docs are schooled with no nutrition classes. If you can’t find anyone who you trust, find an accredited herbalist.

Everything you consume and don’t consume has a direct and long lasting impact on the state of your health. Also what you put on your body, the personal care products, the air you breathe, the water you drink, the pesticides and pollutants in the environment, and the household products you use all have a direct impact on you and your family’s health.

You all know that this site promotes a plant based real whole food lifestyle. Choose wisely the food you consume that works for your body. This subscriber takes no pharmaceutical drugs, is healthy and fit, and wants the same for you. Be well.

Reversing Diabetes With Food | Care2 Healthy Living

Reversing Diabetes With Food | Care2 Healthy Living | zestful living | Scoop.it
Type 2 diabetes can be reversed with severe calorie restriction but did you know it can also be reversed simply by eating healthier?
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that you can reverse diabetes 2 and heart disease by consuming a plant based real whole food regimen/lifestyle? How?, By eating real whole delicious plant based food with no processed fake, synthetic, artificial, sugary ingredients. Simple and powerful.

When you eat this way you give your body the nutrients it needs as plant food is anti-inflammatory and your gut bacteria thrive on it. You can eat as many veggies, greens, legumes as you want and not gain additional weight.

For some of you this is too radical. Take baby steps then until you become more comfortable with the fact that you are feeling better, you’ve lost weight, and you’re off most of your meds. Either way you will eventually become healthier.

Health Tips:

Get in the habit of eating raw sprouts. Add them to your big salads. Sprouts, especially pea and sunflower are rich in protein.

You can eat raw and cooked (steamed) veggies, greens, and add raw seeds, nuts, some seaweed, legumes (sprouted/cooked beans, peas, lentils), and some cooked sprouted/or not ancient whole grains (quinoa, buckwheat, millet, amaranth, teff).

Prepare raw cut up veggies and fruits to keep handy. Make your own seed/nut butters or buy no added oils, sugar organic brands.

Add fermented probiotic rich foods to your meals. Eat healthy omega 3 plant based fats every day.

Add exercise to your lifestyle in the form of stretching, aerobic, high intensity, resistance, weight lifting, and/or walking every day. Take plant based vitamin D3 and B-12 everyday. Drink half your weight in filtered water everyday.

What Is In That Starbucks Caramel Macchiato? | Care2 Healthy Living

What Is In That Starbucks Caramel Macchiato? | Care2 Healthy Living | zestful living | Scoop.it
Discover the hidden ingredients in your favorite Starbucks beverage-by bestselling author of 60 SECONDS TO SLIM & BOOST YOUR BRAIN POWER IN 60 SECONDS, Dr. Cook
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that some places like Starbucks use unhealthy genetically modified, artificial and heavily sugar laden ingredients in their beverages? You like drinking their coffee, fine. Just order a small coffee.

If you want a fancy coffee beverage make one at home with much healthier ingredients. Your body can’t use artificial, synthetic, GMO ingredients.

These are foreign substances that cause inflammation in your body. Inflammation leads to leaky gut and other digestive issues, headaches, and chronic diseases.

Your body also has hormonal issues with dairy as in the milk used to make the beverage. Dairy milk is for baby cows to fatten them up.

As an aside, it would be great if all companies, brands were open and disclosed the ingredients in their products so people can make their own choices. There’s no place for deception in the marketplace.

Health Tips:

Unless you like consuming artificial chemical poisons, demand Starbucks and other beverage places clean up their disclosure acts. You have a right to know what’s in the food you consume so you can make the choice to buy or not.

8 Foods An Inflammation Expert Won't Touch

8 Foods An Inflammation Expert Won't Touch | zestful living | Scoop.it
An inflammation expert shares the foods that cause inflammation, so you can make sure they're nowhere near your diet!
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that all non plant based real whole foods are inflammatory? This includes processed packaged food, fast food, all sweeteners, lab created food, chemicals, pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, GMOs, and animal based food. Some people have issues with gluten as well.

Real whole food comes from Mother Nature and was grown in organic, soil that doesn’t use chemical fertilizers.

Stay away from vegetable seed oils as they are inflammatory and never buy canola oil as there is no such plant as canola. It comes from rapeseed, a petrochemical.

Ingesting too many omega 6 fats which are inflammatory (seed oils) and not enough inflammation fighting omega 3s causes health issues.

Beside consuming food, there’s also harm from using endocrine disruptors like BPA and its replacement. Currently there is no BPA-Free plastic. Use stainless steel lock fitting containers.

Anytime you eat conventional produce, you run the risk of ingesting pesticides and GMOs.. Always keep a handy list from EWG.org for your Clean and Dirty greens, veggies, and fruits when you shop for food.

Health tips:
Buy organic/local as often as possible. Buy food in the bulk aisle to save money and get just the amount you want avoiding plastic, boxed, packaged food containers. You’ll be helping your self and the environment.

Eat anti-inflammatory real whole plant based food. Sprout your food. It must be organic to sprout. Eat raw and steamed food.

Eat fresh ripe fruit and/or make your own raw desserts with fruit or liquid organic Stevia. Juice greens and spices. Or make green smoothies.

You can dehydrate fruit as well for snacks. Ferment/culture your food too. There are so many different options for you to choose what works best for you and your family. You just have to take the first step in your wellness journey.

The Nutrient That Reduces Heart Damage Even After A Heart Attack | Care2 Healthy Living

Discove the potent nutrient that reverses heart attack damage--by bestselling author of 60 SECONDS TO SLIM & BOOST YOUR BRAIN POWER IN 60 SECONDS, Dr. Cook.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that plant based omega 3 essential fatty acids not only boost your immune system, have anti-inflammatory properties, but they also improve your heart health and restore heart function even after the heart organ has been damaged from a heart attack?

Sprouts are the best food source of omega 3s. Plant based omega 3s are user friendly for your cells.

In place of harmful cancer causing fish oil which creates more heart and prostrate disease, you can buy clary sage oil which for now comes in capsules, according to Brian Clement, co-director of Hippocrates Health Institute. Brian is a licensed Nutritionist and has a PhD.

Health Tips:

Other very good sources of omega 3s are sprouted and non sprouted ground flaxseeds and chia seeds. Hemp seeds are a good source as well.

Walnuts are also another great source as are leafy greens and certain types of algae. Other plant based foods such as fruits and non-green veggies also contain lower amounts of omega 3s.

Essential fatty acids have to be consumed daily to get all the health benefits as your body doesn’t produce them. Eat more of the omega 3s and less of omega 6s which are inflammatory. Omega 6s are typically seen in processed and animal based food.

What happens to the brain as we age?

What happens to the brain as we age? | zestful living | Scoop.it
The brain begins to decline with age. We examine what happens to the brain over time and whether the rate of decline can be slowed or even prevented.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that Alzheimers disease and other dementias are not part of the normal aging process? This next information is interesting.

The part of your brain, the frontal lobes which are responsible for executive functions such as planning, working memory, and impulse control may not be fully developed until you are 35 years old. Prevention is key.

This might sound like a broken record, cassette, CD, DVD, or laser disk, but what you consume, digest, absorb, and assimilate affects every aspect of who you are.

When you eat lab created, processed, synthetic, artificial, chemical, pesticide, GMOs, gene-edited, sugars, and animal based food you are setting your body up for chronic inflammation which leads to disease.

In addition to the nutrient poor food you eat is your lack of exercise/movement, your lack of social engagement, lack of creative fulfilling activities, not managing your stress, and not sleeping well.

Health tips:
Taking preventative steps now where you are either as as a child, young adult, teen, college student, millennial, Gen X, 50-60s or glorious elder will make a difference for your brain and overall health.

Of course it’s best to start early at birth, but wherever you are in the continuum of human life, research shows that you can make a difference for yourself.

Consuming plant based real whole food which is what your evolutionary body ate and what your gut bacteria thrive on is prevention in action.

Wherever you are in your food journey, start adding more greens, sprouts, sea and land veggies, legumes (beans, peas, lentils), and whole ancient grains to your meals or go to a complete plant based regimen. Drink filtered water throughout your day to keep hydrated and alert.

Are you moving throughout your day, walking with friends or in a support group? Are you doing weight lifting every day and resistance training? Sitting for long periods is the new smoking. Get off your butts, literally.

When tensions are acute, breathe deeply. Deep breaths bring needed oxygen into your lungs calming you.

Get out in nature as much as possible. Journal or drink herbal teas.

Turn off your screens. Get your head and neck out of your cell phone.

Volunteer, help an elder, neighbor, family member, walk your pets, play music or learn to play an instrument, or learn a new language, a new skill, garden, hike, backpack or something totally different that you’ve never done before. Engage as fully as possible in this glorious life you’ve been given.

Suffering from even mild gut distress can be a real bummer. It can also be confusing. Is it your diet? Is it your lifestyle? Where to begin? To give you a solid
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that synthetic, artificial, chemical, medications, antibiotics, drugs, sweet poisons, and animal based food can decimate your gut microbiome? The gut bacteria in your body doesn’t respond well to anything made in a lab and/or inflammatory.

The human body hasn’t changed much from its evolutionary times when plant food ruled. Your cave ancestors ate tubers, seeds, fruit, greens for the most part.

Health tips:
The bacteria in your gut feed on plant based fiber. By consuming fresh produce you are feeding your bacteria what they thrive on. Fresh real whole greens, veggies, fruit are the prebiotic.

Consuming fermented live cultures also give your body probiotics. You can also take high quality probiotic supplements from a trusted company.

Skip the Package and Buy These Foods in Bulk to Save Money and a Lot of Waste

Skip the Package and Buy These Foods in Bulk to Save Money and a Lot of Waste | zestful living | Scoop.it
It helps us cut down on the amount of waste we are producing, especially when folks reuse bags.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know the best way to save money, help the environment, and get the exact amount you need for your healthy meals is to be buy in bulk? Bulk bins are showing up in mainstream supermarkets as this good trend is becoming more known.

Health Tips:
Stores usually supply small plastic bags with zip locks and also small paper bags/sacks. Some stores will let you bring your own glass jars.

You can reuse both the plastic and paper bags many times. The paper bags are better for the environment.

All plant based foods can be bought in bulk. Always opt for organic and from bins that are changed daily. If you don’t know, ask the store manager. The reason you want organic is to avoid pesticides.

Most bulk items in healthy markets are labelled organic anyway. Make sure to ask a manager in a conventional market if you don’t see labels.

From whole grains, to nuts/seeds/nut/seed butters, to dried fruits, to coconut flakes, to teas, to herbs/spices, to raw cacao, to carob, and others. If you ever wanted to sample a certain food, with bulk you can just take a small amount to see if you like it.

However make sure to use what you buy within a reasonable amount of time. Storing herbs/spices for years is not recommended. They will lose their flavor and go bad.

When buying flaxseeds, be sure to grind and then use within a short period of time. Flaxseeds go rancid if not used within a couple of months. Flaxmeal in bags needs to be used quickly as well.

When buying nuts/seeds opt for raw rather than roasted. When nuts are roasted at a high heat unless a dehydrator (low heat) is used, those nuts are carcinogenic.
