"(...) There are two important conclusions from the research: 1. Even for the sole purpose for which lectures may be effective – the transmission of information – the 50 minute lecture needs to be well organized, with frequent opportunities for student questions and discussion. (Bligh provides excellent suggestions on how to do this in his book.) 2. For all other important learning activities, such as developing critical thinking, deep understanding, and application of knowledge – the kind of skills needed in a digital age – lectures are ineffective. Other forms of teaching and learning – such as opportunities for discussion and student activities – are necessary. (...)"

The annual New Media Consortium Horizon Report’s K-12 2015 Edition, that provides insight into digital learning trends, named blended learning as a key topic to watch in the next two years. The trends included in the report were selected by 56 experts from 22 countries.Two teaching and learning trends expected to accelerate the use of educational technology in classrooms in a year or two, the report said, were the use of blended learning and STEAM (an acronym for science, technology, engineering, arts and math) education.Sometimes called hybrid learning, blended learning enables educators to pursue a variety of instructional models. Ideally, the technology allows the teacher to make the most of face-to-face time with students, leaving some more routine learning tasks to the computer.

OSNABRÜCK.- Lernende und Lehrende erwarten heute, Texte in digitaler Form zur Verfügung gestellt zu bekommen. Voraussichtlich ab 2016 müssen die Hochschulen laut Richterspruch für elektronische Lehrmaterialien in ihren Intranets bezahlen. Streitpunkt ist, ob dieses pauschal oder per Einzelmeldung geschehen kann. Die Universität Osnabrück hat im Auftrag der Kultusministerkonferenz und in Zusammenarbeit mit der Verwertungsgesellschaft Wort (VG Wort) erstmals in Deutschland untersucht, wie eine Einzelerfassung elektronischer Lehrmaterialien technisch umgesetzt werden kann.

Das Fazit von Vizepräsidentin Prof. Dr. May-Britt Kallenrode: »Mit Einführung einer Einzelmeldepflicht werden wesentlich weniger Texte von den Studierenden und Lehrenden verwendet. Der organisatorische Aufwand für die Hochschulen ist unangemessen hoch und keine Alternative zu einer Pauschalvergütung.«
