How to address faculty's 3 biggest online learning concerns - eCampus News

How to address faculty's 3 biggest online learning concerns - eCampus News | Zentrum für multimediales Lehren und Lernen (LLZ) | Scoop.it
As education becomes more accessible with advanced technology, more and more students are opting to enroll in online schools or take some of their traditional college courses online.

But as this trend grows, institutions are finding it necessary to address faculty concerns and ensure online programs are high-quality and rigorous.

Online and blended learning programs from higher-ed institutions across the nation certainly inspire innovation, but higher-ed administrators must consider faculty point of view amidst these changes, according to Building Trust: How to Address Faculty Concerns about Online Education, a new whitepaper from Wiley Education Services.

Nearly five years ago, 58 percent of professors in a Babson College survey described themselves as having “more fear than excitement” about the growth of online learning; more than 80 percent of academic technology administrators, on the other hand, said they felt more excitement than fear.

The whitepaper aims to help administrators better understand faculty concerns about online learning, and it also offers recommendations to address those concerns.

janlgordon's curator insight, April 24, 11:09 PM

I selected this article from Curatti written by Joan Selby because it provides insights into how to effectively use video and multimedia to capture your audience's attention.

Bring more to your content marketing through the power of interaction.

Visual Content Marketing Success Strategies

A blog post can stand out from the rest by including a strong video that captures the reader's attention. I agree that you need to include visuals in order to take your marketing to the next level.

Selby explains the impact of interactive content on your business marketing reach.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • Get into the thinking of your customer through infographics, educational webinars, 'how to' videos, ect.. The establishes awareness for your brand.

  • Make your titles interesting and compelling. Then the reader will want to take the time to take action such as engaging in a poll or quiz.

  • Find the best channels to distribute your interactive content. Don't waste your time by publishing to a dead network.

"As MOOC providers focussed on finding a business model, they started putting certain aspects of the experience behind a paywall, hoping to get more people to pay. MOOCs went from free to free to audit (nevermind that the concept of auditing a class is completely foreign in most parts of the world)."

ASCD EDge - Can Educators Ignore Social Media Any Longer?

ASCD EDge - Can Educators Ignore Social Media Any Longer? | Zentrum für multimediales Lehren und Lernen (LLZ) | Scoop.it
A lingering general question hanging over the heads of all has been what effect does social media have on our society? That answer has never been so evident as it has been today as social media tools have been placed directly in the hands of the President of the United States, as well as foreign operatives. Social media is a very powerful tool that can have a lasting effect on what people do, and how they do it. Placing those social media technology tools in the hands of some of the most educated members of our society who have the greatest effect on future generations has had somewhat mixed results.
Education as a profession needs to recognize and accept the fact that we live in the 21st century and social media enables change that can happen much faster, and affect greater groups of people than any technology of the 20thCentury, including radio and television. Change has always come slowly over the centuries and that was what we expected, change happening slowly giving us more time to adjust and adapt. Technology has changed that paradigm. Change is coming more quickly than many can adapt to and creating an uncomfortable situation for any profession that has been slow to change.
