The last few years have brought data visualization deeply into the world of design. It used to take highly technical designers or a team of developers and designers to create data visualizations that were both accurate and beautiful. Recently, several web-based data visualization tools have come out (thanks to D3.js) that lower that barrier to entry so that designers don’t need as many technical skills to be able to build their own beautiful data visualizations. If you teach history/social studies this post is right up your alley. The website MadeFromHistory has put together 30 infographics that look at 30 key events in the last 100 years, and they do acknowledge that the have "left out quite a few events" due to space limitations. You can also find sections that focus on World War I, World War II, and Civil Rights as well as a Referenced Blog, which shares a wide variety of topics.

For many students, using visuals helps them to recall information more readily. If you teach history from the past 100 years it is worth checking out this website.

Visuals that include original source materials make classroom experiences much more relevant to students. It allows the story of the events to be made more real whether it is the experiences of WWI, WW II, or Civil Rights.

The Tin Can API (sometimes known as the Experience API or xAPI) is a brand new specification for learning technology that makes it possible to collect data about the wide range of experiences a person has (online and offline). This API captures data in a consistent format about a person or group’s activities from many technologies. Very different systems are able to securely communicate by capturing and sharing this stream of activities using Tin Can’s simple vocabulary.

"(...) There are two important conclusions from the research: 1. Even for the sole purpose for which lectures may be effective – the transmission of information – the 50 minute lecture needs to be well organized, with frequent opportunities for student questions and discussion. (Bligh provides excellent suggestions on how to do this in his book.) 2. For all other important learning activities, such as developing critical thinking, deep understanding, and application of knowledge – the kind of skills needed in a digital age – lectures are ineffective. Other forms of teaching and learning – such as opportunities for discussion and student activities – are necessary. (...)"

Man muss schon weit zurückgehen, bis in das Jahr 1996, um den vermutlichen Ursprung von „Content is King“ zu finden. Es war (Überraschung!) Bill Gates, der in einem Artikel schrieb: „Content is where I expect much of the real money will be made on the Internet…”.
In ursprünglichen Sinn verwendet stimmt der Satz nach wie vor. Nicht nur Geld wird auch heute vor allem mit guten Inhalten verdient ...

Eine selbstverständliche und reflektierte Nutzung unterschiedlicher Formen digitaler Medien in der Lehre ist grundlegend notwendig, um die Auseinandersetzung seitens der Studierenden mit den strukturellen Herausforderungen im Umgang mit unterschiedlichen Medien zu fördern. Nur durch die aktive Auseinandersetzung mit aktuellen gesellschaftlichen Formen der Kommunikation und Kollaboration kann es gelingen, ein Bewusstsein für die Merkmale digitaler Kommunikations- und Partizipationsformen und des Umgangs mit Wissen in digitalen Strukturen zu entwickeln.

Insbesondere in der Erziehungswissenschaft ist es daher notwendig, eLearning nicht als eine spezielle didaktische Form der Wissensvermittlung zu begreifen, sondern vielmehr generell die Bedeutung des »e«s beim »Learning« zu stärken. (...)"
