The time spent as a student, are some of the most fun years in one’s life. The enjoyment begins from the day one crosses over the gates of the school and thus begins a journey that one would best describe as being magical.
But school is just the beginning and one truly hits the next gear when the phase called college life starts. Earlier, there would be teachers to remind and keep a track on their wards. There were constant follow-ups and escaping their wrath when things went wrong were top most on the mind.
Things are often in stark contrast in college. There is no one to be after the students. They are free to attend or skip classes as and when they please. The entire onus of development falls on the student and the teaching staffs are more in charge of playing a support role, than anything else.
The onus of responsibility therefore falls upon the students themselves as they go about exploring the wide range of options in the careers arena. From the education streams to the specialization possibilities on offer – everything gets thrown open for the youth. Pretty much everyone flounders, but then, things straighten out with a bit of guidance and some tough academic work.
But college is not all about the serious stuff. There’s music and dance opportunities galore, as are the chances to meet and interact with people from a diverse range of socio-economic backgrounds. One learns to adjust and adapt to various situations, and explore their own niche, through extra-curricular activities.
As one intermingles with people from the other gender, it is invariable that there is going to be a lot of interest in the opposite sex. Some take things forward and start dating, thereby sparking off that wonderful phase that’s best declared as a college romance. Depending upon the commitment levels and other factors, these relationships even go on to blossom into lifelong affairs.
The youngsters of today look up to TV serials in a huge way. They seek inspiration from them and use their reference to draw parallels with their own life. These days, youth icons like Channel V and their ilk are positioning themselves as advisors, helping young souls to get a grip on the situation around them.
