Did you know that plant based foods high in soluble fiber, such as legumes (beans, split peas, green peas, lentils), oatmeal, flax and pumpkin seeds can help you to lose belly fat? 

 

Both oatmeal and oat bran are high in fiber, including a type called beta-glucan, which slows passage of sugars into your bloodstream and puts less strain on insulin-producing cells.

 

Studies show that people who eat oats have slower and steadier releases of blood sugar compared with those who eat refined white bread and pasta (simple carbs).

 

The soluble fiber from oatmeal, legumes, and seeds transforms into a gel-like substance during digestion and soaks fats and cholesterol in your intestine so they can’t reenter your bloodstream.

 

Try to get between 40 and 55 grams of fiber daily, along with plenty of filtered water, which helps with constipation.

 

Health tips:  Drink plenty of filtered water when consuming fiber rich foods. Water adds bulk to your stools and increases the fluid in your large intestines, softening bowel movements and helping them move on their way to elimination.

 

Remember to begin your day with one-three glasses of filtered water plain or with lemon slice before consuming other beverages. It’s a good way to rehydrate after a full 7-9 hours of sleep. 

 

Drinking water in the morning also fills you up so that you eat later and therefore might only consume two meals a day which also helps with weight management.

 

Eating more fiber rich foods feeds your gut bacteria and helps your heart as high fiber intake creates more nitric oxide (NO), which helps to dilate blood vessels, thus lowering blood pressure and reduces arterial clots.

 

Eating more seeds, such as ground flax ensures you’re getting the best source of alpha linoleic acid (ALA), a heart healthy omega 3.
