At 25, Streeter won a GRAMMY for her songwriting credits on Chris Brown's 2011 album, F.A.M.E. But now she's ready to step into the spotlight with her own music.
Jaii Reynolds's insight:
Along with Eric Bellinger, Sevyn Streeter is one of my favorite songerwriters. A common & unknown fact about a lot of your favorite artist is that they began as songwriters & found their way into becoming some of the best artist in the industry today.
Sevyn Streeter is no exception. You may know her as the female vocalist on Chris Brown's "She Ain't You."
Sevyn has written for the likes of Chris Brown, Ariana Grande, Brandy, Kelly Rowland, & Alicia Keys. She has also toured with Beyonce & K.Michelle.
Eric Bellinger is one of my favorite songwriters. What many people don't know is that he is the creator of most of your favorite R&B/Pop songs, that are out today. His credit include the following: Selena Gomez "Intuition", Big Time Rush "Music Sounds Better With You", Usher "Lemme See", Chris Brown "Fine China", & Justin Bieber "Right Here". Just to name a few.
Eric is definitely one of the best of songwriters of today.
This is a new songwriter to me, but I enjoy Garth Brooks music. "The Call" is a beautiful song & Karyn did a great job with these lyrics. I love country music because it always tells a story, and this particular one is very relatable, to me at least.
I'm glad Garth gave her recognition & brought this songwriter to our attention.
This special episode of Mental Floss is hosted by The Gregory Brothers, and schools us on some of the wonderful and unlikely stories behind popular song lyrics over the years. Scrambled eggs. Oh my, baby how I love your legs...
Jaii Reynolds's insight:
This post just made my whole day! As a songwriter myself, I understand that ideas tend to just hit. When these ideas hit you have two choices to make; "Am I going to continue what I was doing and try to remember this later?" i.e, Sleeping, working, cooking, etc. Or, "Am I going to stop what I'm doing, write this down or create some type of voice memo before I forget this?"
This is one of the most important moments in a songwriters life. If you chose to ignore that lyric, riff, or idea, you'll never know where it could've taken you & your career.
If you chose to write it down, or with todays technology, record a video on your smart phone, iPod, laptop, etc. Then it can be a lifechanging thing for you. This could be the song that leads you to your big break. You never know.
Most people don't know how they're favorite songs came about, this gives you a little insight on it.
