The bizarre, unhealthy, blinding media contempt for Julian Assange

The bizarre, unhealthy, blinding media contempt for Julian Assange | YES for an Independent Scotland | Scoop.it

I post this thoughtful article here for the attention of all left leaning independistas in Scotland as a cautionary tale which usefully describes the institutional media forces at work defending the United Kingdom from the 'threat' of Scottish Independence.

Glenn Greenwald is one of America's bravest journalists who is himself under constant attack by the very US institutions we all despise.

3MenInABlog do not have a pro or anti Assange agreed position.

Glenn Greenwald: It is possible to protect the rights of the complainants in Sweden and Assange's rights against political persecution, but a vindictive thirst for vengeance is preventing that...

How Gordon Brown – and the No camp – long for yesterday

How Gordon Brown – and the No camp – long for yesterday | YES for an Independent Scotland | Scoop.it

"Under a Labour Government, in which he was either Chancellor or Prime Minister, inequality on these islands grew. Not just between those at the top and the bottom, but across the social classes and throughout the nation states and regions. In case, he had forgotten."
"Like so many in the No camp, it is the politics, rather than the economic or social arguments, which bind Gordon Brown to the Union. The politics comes first and arguments are woven to fit. So much of their time and energy is spent looking back, making the case for the future on a revised working of the past."

Lallands Peat Worrier: Misleading anti-Nationalist invective, Vol. 56... | YES for an Independent Scotland | Scoop.it

"Each man may be guilty of the good he does not do, and the inactivity of the Scottish Government on defamation reform may well be complacent, but the scenario which Bonnington so ill-temperedly promotes in this Telegraph piece is simply fictional. To avoid Bonnington’s wroth, MacAskill would presumably have been obliged unilaterally to ask Westminster to pass defamation legislation for us. The distinction between acts and omissions may be of philosophical interest, but the impression aggressively cultivated by this piece of invective is seriously misleading."

MUST READ | Raw optimism from a young Scot |The possibilities of Scottish independence

MUST READ | Raw optimism from a young Scot |The possibilities of Scottish independence | YES for an Independent Scotland | Scoop.it

"Scottish independence isn’t just about sovereignty and power being moved from London to Edinburgh. Albeit this principle is in itself enough for me to vote and campaign for a Yes majority it isn’t for, perhaps, a majority of the Scottish people. It is in my opinion that people need to be aware that a Yes vote could radically change the type of society they live in a whole host of ways. I believe that the Yes campaign needs to centre itself around this if it is to win the referendum."

Joan McAlpine: Scotland's oil cash won't run out | YES for an Independent Scotland | Scoop.it
IT is worth considering why the governments in London so desperate to hang on to Scotland?

If we could keep our oil revenue, we could sort out many of our problems associated with poverty and inequality. As Norway has done. Official statistics show that Scots could be £1600 a year better off if we got to keep the money that currently goes south.

Tarff Advertiser: What sort of Scotland would you like to live in post 2014?

Tarff Advertiser: What sort of Scotland would you like to live in post 2014? | YES for an Independent Scotland | Scoop.it

"My aims for my future Scotland are:
To create a modern nation based on equity of opportunity
To maintain a representative democracy with a proportionally elected Parliament
To ensure Scotland's historic practice of welfare and care for those in real need is maintained
To ensure all are subject to the same rule of law for their protection, liberties and rights as a sovereign people
My objectives to achieve these aims are:
Secede from the 1707 Treaty of Union immediately after the 2014 brings a 'Yes' result in the referendum
Hold a Scottish Parliamentary election under the current mix of Constituency and List to establish the first independent parliament in Autumn 2016 since 1707
Negotiate a quick exit from Westminster based on an equable division of assetts and liabilities - if this fails simply declare UDI, if an agreement is not completed by the time of the 2016 Scottish Parliamentary elections."

Peter Curran : YES Campaign’s assumptions about the 2016 Scottish Parliamentary election

Peter Curran : YES Campaign’s assumptions about the 2016 Scottish Parliamentary election | YES for an Independent Scotland | Scoop.it

"You make the statement, as a categorical statement of unqualified fact, that "The next Scottish election in 2016 will be to the first independent parliament. At this point, you will be able to choose the government you want for Scotland" as a categorical statement of unqualified fact."

Do you conceive of any or all of the following possibilities -

1. That Scotland will formally become an independent nation before negotiations are completed on fundamental matters?

2. That the date of the 2016 election is flexible, i.e. that it could be delayed until negotiations are complete?

3. That the outcome of the referendum itself will not be legally contested and challenged, e.g. in the event of a narrow or disputed result?
